We have a client that is requesting a more complets sort on Dynamic User Directory than appears to be supported.  He would like to sort on 2 fields, however the module appears to only allow the user to select one field from a dropdown.  Is there a way to get around this limitation?  Would it be possible that maybe this could be a feature request/enhancement that you guys may consider implementing?

    Thanks,

    Brian

    Hi Brian,

First, I wanted to let you know I relocated your thread to Dynamic User Directory, in case you're wondering.

This module actually allows you to search using multiple criteria.  Please see this in action with our demo here.  Let us know if you have additional questions.

    Thanks!
    Candace

Sorry for the confusion, but i am actually referring to sort, not search.  So order by is a dropdown therefore you can only choose one field at a time.  Our client wants to sort by type, lastname, firstname.  Not just type.  Does that make sense?

HI Brian, currently the sort order is chosen under Module Configuration for one DNN core field only (picked from a drop down list). I believe it's possible to add in a couple more drop down lists for a person to choose several sort orders. Will run by our chief developer Chad and perhaps make this an enhancement for future patch / updates. -- David

    Hi Brian,

Unfortunately the sort order is currently limited to a single field at this time. We will review adding features in the future to allow users to sort by additional fields. If you needed something sooner this can be handled via our Premium Support at http://www.datasprings.com/Premium-Support.

    Thanks,

    Chad

Hi... I just wanted to follow up on this (I realize its about a year old now )... We did end up adding multiple order by fields within the upcoming 3.1 release (ready this next week). We also added additional features that allow you to also set an order by in random order as well.

    Thanks,

    Chad

I am currently on 4.10.3, same client actually as the one i was asking for last time.  Module has been working great.   Yesterday she contacted me and notified me that the sort order is all wierd.  Basically what she is trying to do with the user dynamic directory, is have a 2 sort going on.  First sort is by Type (custom field).  the Types that her users will have are 3 will have Partner, the others will all have a type of broker.  She is sorting that DESC, so the partners will show up first.  That part is stll working.  Next part she wants everything sorted by last name.  Looking at the settings, it seems this is as simple as setting sort order 2 as lastname, and we are done.

Not seeing that to be the case.  first off, i have no idea what the secondary  sort is actually doing, like i said, it is sorting the type correctly, however as for the secondary sort, i am unable to make any sense out of it at all.

It does not seem to keep the secondary sort.  If i go into control panel, view the module settings, it is always username, i can change it and set it back to lastname, but when i go back in, it is username again.

Events leading up to this problem.  2 days ago, this was looking the way she wanted it to. It broke yesterday, these are the events that lead up to it breaking.

    1) She edited one of the partners (actually instead of deleting the old one and adding a new one and setting that one to partner, she actually edited the partner that was going away, and changed all his information to the new user.
    2) She deleted a user(seems like when she deleted this guy, the secondary sort started gettin a little whacky, from what she is reporting to me), atleast that is when she noticed the brokers were no longer sorted the way she was expecting them to be.
    3) about 3-4 months ago, we moved the site from an installation that housed many portals, to a new installation that holds only her 3 sites.  We then moved her sites to a new physical server.  DB is still in the same location as iti was before (we have a dedicated DB server), and the specs on the new webserver are identical to the webserver she came from (windows 2008 r2, iis 7.5 and so on).  Just wanted to point that out, in case the actual move is the root of the problem, whcih since it has worked error free for 3 - 4 months i dont expect that to be the case.

OK, so my question is, 1 anyone had a similar problem, how did you fix it?  2 there are some tables in SQL, TEMPDUD*, if i were to trucate or even drop those, would they be recreated?  reloaded?  Maybe that is the problem? 3 what table are the sort orders being stored?  I am curious if my secondary sort is stored and just not reloading on edit or if something squirrly is going on there.

    Thanks!

    Brian
