I saw this as an old enhancement request, wondered if it is possible. I'd like to be able to see first letters of last name as my paging options, instead of page numbers in list mode. Any chance?

Hi Datasprings crew, Yes I've had requests for this too .. the nice a - z links across the top of the page allowing you to quickly click throuh that filter. Would be nice to be able to specify which field it applys to within the config, such as applies to first name or lastname or company name.

I am not sure if this is the way DataSprings would recommend implementing this feature, but it worked well for me. I have a custom profile field named 'Organization'. I set up a search field on Organization using 'Begins With' and a text box.

I then used the following in an HTML module that I placed directly above my DUD module on the same page. Passing the querystring variable with the first letter, and using the AutoSearch=true are the two items that work the magic behind the scenes.

(I changed the opening and closing anchor tags from each line to brackets and changed href to hrf so the text below would display correctly.)

[a]hrf="directory.aspx?Organization=b&AutoSearch=true">B[/a]
[a]hrf="directory.aspx?Organization=c&AutoSearch=true">C[/a]

Hope this helps someone else. It took me a while to figure this out as I couldn't find much documentation on it.

Our user guide does provide documentation on our Filter feature in Dynamic User Directory:

Please go to www.datasprings.com/Dynamic-User-Directory scroll down and you'll see a user guide link on the left pane menu on the page.

Then when in this user guide go to section 7.5 and you'll see the section to get the A-Z links to be specified on a certain column field.

Thank you Ryan. I looked at that user guide about 20 times and never quite got that out of it.

The new version of DUD has a filter section that looks slight differet with the words 'Alphabetic' removed so I never caught that. I thought the filter field was to limit the records displayed at all times. I did go back and try it using the filter field as you suggest and that did work as well. Thank you for pointing that out.

No problem Mike, next time you need to use Dynamic User Directory you have a faster way to implement the A-Z links.

But the path that you took is what I prefer because creating all these links that point to the DUD instance will enhance your SEO optimization.
