The module is causing problems because of "The data types ntext and varchar are incompatible in the equal to operator"

If a filter is run against a ntext or varchar columns then the page will not even load. The only way to fix this right now is to delete the page, go to the recycle bin and delete the module, then restore the page from the recycle bin.

How can I fix the error without getting a page load exception?

    Hello Joseph,

The only reason that I can see why you're getting an error, is that the SQL you're providing in the Module Configuration -> Custom SQL datasource section is invalid.

Are you using a stored procedure? I would encourage you to look into the "Allow Free Form" feature and how this can assist you with building a custom SQL Query as the datasource.

By enabling this feature, you gain so much more flexibility and power with Dynamic Views to achieve complex reports with search filters included.

Please review our Dynamic Views User Guide and search for Allow Free Form to help you better understand this feature:

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

Just a couple other quick comments...

Can you let us know what version you are running on? I ask because I believe if the query fails we fixed the issue with the most recent 3.0 release related to it causing the entire page to cause an error.

Also - You might need to CAST that column as nvarchar in your query. I say this because the "CONTAINS" operator uses the LIKE clause and this clause will not work if the column is text or ntext (just like it does not if you are running against SQL Server Management Studio).

    Thanks,

    Chad
