For years, customers have been asking us to build a shopping cart module for DotNetNuke... and for years we have watched from the sidelines as other vendors have introduced carts, features, and solutions to meet these demands within the DNN ecosystem. Well I am happy to announce that we have been working on our own shopping cart module...

We want your opinion! Shopping carts can be as simple or as complex as you can imagine. Each implementation has specific requirements and we want to know all of your requirements... We all know any solution needs to offer a an easy to use interface and control panel, a flexible catalog and product/inventory featureset, along with many necessary features such as affiliates, electronic downloads, promo and coupon codes, and flexible/templated checkout options.

What else does a good shopping cart module need? Let us know!

    Watch out for Acquire 1.0!

The ability to integrate with Dynamic Registration would be absolutely awesome. In my environment, we offer products (mostly event registrations) in addition to membership at the site. Members often can receive special pricing or early access to certain events. For a non-integrated product you'd have to register and pay first, and then go back to shop for member only events. Allowing a single transaction for membership and a members only ticket would be very cool.

For Events, it would also be handy to have the ability to tie into the Events Module so people can register for events. The ability to set limits on different price levels, and create seat packages (get a full table of 8 tickets at once) is one of the key things I'd be looking for. (in addition to limiting certain tickets based on security)

I'm sure I can come up with more, but those are two of the things I've been working with a lot the last few weeks.

What we are looking for and I would think that others are looking for is a payment management system. I can not find any modules that offer a complete solution. The features I am looking for is as follows:

    1) A tie to Dynamic Registration so that a person can purchase a role based subscription at registration time. Also the user can upgrade the subscription at any time. Multiple levels with different prices should be available. Each level should be able to add user to one or more roles. Also be able to specify roles that the user is  removed from.

    2) Initial payment should be submitted immediately through Authorize.net ARM so that the user will get immediate feedback if payment fails. Customizable receipt emailed to user.

    3) Payment information should be entered into Authorize.net CIM in order to allow subsequent payments.

    4) Reoccurring payments to be performed by module using payment method stored in CIM. Customizable receipt emailed to user.

    5) If payment fails, customizable failure email sent to user.

    6) User can log into website and access payment system and update their payment method when required. If payment is outstanding because of failure then it is resubmitted.

    7) User can change their subscription or stop it all together.

    8) User can see a list of all payment for their account.

    9) User can authorize one time payments using payment method on file at any time.

    10) Customizable email that is sent to user prior to payment being submitted. This email should have a setting saying which frequent of payment should get it. For instance we are offering 1 month and annual payment options. We only want to send the email to users that about to get charged their annual payment.

The reason we do not want anything to do with Authorize.net ARB service is that it requires way to much work. If a payment fails, their is no way to fix it and have the failed payment resubmitted. We have to obtain the payment information from the user and submit a manual payment via Authorize.net and then update the ARB entry for future payments. ARB service does not validate that a credit card payment will go through until it runs later. So if an ARB initial payment fails for any reason including typos it has to be manually fixed like above.

    As soon as someone actually releases a module that <!--[if gte mso 9]> Normal 0 unctuationKerning /> false false false ontGrowAutofit /> MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 <!-- /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:""; margin:0in; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";} @page Section1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.25in 1.0in 1.25in; mso-header-margin:.5in; mso-footer-margin:.5in; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} --> <!--[if gte mso 10]> satisfies our needs we will purchase it, barring an unreasonable price (price in the thousands).

In fact..I just submit this earlier this morning before I saw this Forum post...

I’ve looked through all of your modules and don’t believe that they can do what I need in their current form and would like to see if you can do some customization work for us.  What I’m trying to accomplish is this:

I have a subscription based site on the latest release of DNN 5. Transactions would be processed through authorize.net

    1.        I want to charge $2.97 for a 3 day trial.   I want that transaction processed immediately because I don’t want to give access to the site without confirmation that the card charge went though. This is a key point. My understanding is that recurring charge transactions though authorize.net, don’t work this way.

    2.       On day 4, I want to charge $139.95 unless they cancel out of the trial.

    3.       One month from the day 1 charge and every month thereafter until cancellation a recurring charge of $4.95

I believe what this boils down to is being able to process a second “nonlive” transaction with the “card on file” information.

I’d like to tie this to roles within CORE Dnn if possible, but not a requirement:  ie..at registration you become a “trial member”, a successful day 4 charge would change the role to “paid member” the first $4.95 charge would change to “maintenance member”

Please let me know if this is something that you could do, along with an estimate.  I need it ASAP.

Hi guys... Thank you for all of your comments. This has been started with development however I think its going to be more of an 'Add On' to allow users to add items to their cart via Dynamic Forms / Registration and allow them to check out using those modules as well. The more we started working on the specs the more and more we realized how much integration users are wanting with Dynamic Forms and Registration... We have built some successful systems using just these modules as shopping carts (go to www.mosscharts.com which is our web part product line and you will see the checkout uses our modules) however we are hoping that when Acquire is released it can be used more as a listing/add to cart option with Dynamic Forms and Registration being used as a checkout process.

I do wish this was already released and further along however its been a busy year!

    Thanks,

    Chad
