Hi, I am wondering if there is a way to convert and xmod form into a dynamic form.

Also, is there a way to directly edit the code of a dynamic form in a plain text editor like there is in XMOD?

I have searched the forum and user guide without success to answer these questions.

    Thanks, Dilly Dally

HI Dilly, I don't believe using the Import/Export feature of DNN for an XML file will work between XMOD form and Dynamic Forms because the XML formatting tags will be completely different. That being said, if you have access to SQL management studio, it would make life a lot simpler because you could possibly use the DTS to copy / map XMOD sql table/columns to Dynamic Forms sql table/colunn,etc. but will take some research and perhaps trial and error as well. Note that Dynamic Forms stores the questions in several tables (DynamicForms_question, DynamicForms_questionoption,etc) but you should be able to perhaps by just copy data into the DynamicForms_question table. Also check out the stored procedures DynamicForms_AddQuestion and DynamicForms_UpdateQuestion.

Whe only way I know of to EDIT the code of a Dynamic Form in a plain text editor is to export the content of that module to an XML file and use an XML file editor or even notepad to modify the XML file directly if that's what you are referring to. -- David

I was afraid of that! Pooh. Oh well, I think that answers the question though.
    Thank you,

Oh maybe not....I just tried to export the content and all I get is the XML...what is supplying the formatting in Dynamic Forms?

I am new to xml but the basics I think I get....it is used to transport and store data...HMTL is used to display it....can anyone explain the formatting in Dynamic forms in those terms?

    Thanks, Dilly Dally

Correct, XML is what you get but it's editable in an XML editor or notepad although I wouldn't recommend doing it this way. However, trying to explain the formatting would be very difficult since it's a combination of modulesettings/dynamicquestions/dynamicevents/dynamicquestionevents,localization,etc. -- David

    Hi Dilly,

Yes, in order for Dynamic Forms to be as 'Dynamic' as possible (especially features such as question events and client side events) the forms are generated on the fly and so there is no actual way to edit the control and move fields around. I believe in XMOD you are actually coding the controls directly within their editor. I am sure there are probably perks and benefits to both modules for different types of implementations.
