Please tell me how the forms that are created in DynamicForms are connected to an underlying database.

E.g., suppose I want to create a database table 'reading list', in which users enter their favorite books. The form is easy, author, title, etc. But, I want to (1) allow each user to enter as many books as they like and (2) be able to view the resulting table.

So, does DynamicFoms create the underlying dbase table. Or, is this something I need to know up front and do it? If that, then what do I use to create the dbase and how do I link form cells to fields in the table etc.

If this is too basic of a question, please point me in the direction of something to read, so that I can learn how this is done. I'm quite lost at the moment and need a bit of direction!

    Thanks! David

    David,

Hi. Well the forms responses are saved to a relation ional database called select top 10 * from DynamicForms_QuestionResponse. The responses tie back to the DynamicForms_Question table and another key column called UniqueCompletionID. In your case though I think what you probably want to do is create a new table in your database called "ReadingList" and use a Dynamic SQL Event as a completion event when the form is submitted to do something like this:

    Insert Into ReadingList(AuthorID, Author,Title) Values('$(UserID)', '$(AuthorShortFieldName)', '$(TitleShortfieldName)')

This would basically always insert the data after form completion. A few other tips:

    1. You could always have the form redirect under general settings to itself so that the user could keep adding them, or better yet add a checkbox field 'Add another?' and then create a completion event that only redirects back to the same page if the checkbox is checked.

    2. To pull in the results you can use any reporting module including the standard DotNetNuke Reports Module with a query like this:
    Select * from ReadingList etc...

    3. Just a note that there are other parameters you can use in the SQL Event such as $(UserID), $(PortalID), $(ModuleID) etc...
