I have set up an email completion event and if i specify the from email address and /or name i get the following error reported in the event viewer

InnerException: The email address (Martinborough Fair 2012) is not in a valid format.

The address is valid - why the error?
If I leave those fields blank it works ok.

What DNN version are you running? There are known email issues that came up from DNN 5.6.1 and then again in DNN 6.0. Removing the From Email NAME will help you get past the issue as you saw. You may also try Chad's suggestion on his 1/26/2011 posts in this forum thread:

DNN Corp. is aware of the problem and we're hoping that a fix will be available in their next patch release.

I replaced the regex and will see how it goes - I have removed the from address and all works ok, since I don't need a different address from the site default, that's fine for now but will test the regex change at some time when things quiet down.
