    Hi all,

I have a form that contains several fields, some which are not required. When I go to form results and I click on "Edit" next to one of the results, I am directed to the form again, and moreover, the entry that I wanted to edit is completely empty!

Since I am working with digital payments, this is a serious issue. I fortunately have a backup of all the entries so my data is safe, but I have no idea why this happens.

    Any idea anyone?

    Thanks, Marc

I think the problem is the following: the form I have created has only hidden fields, and submits automatically when the hidden fields have a certain value. When I click edit, Dynamic Forms wants to put all the data in the fields in the original form so that I can edit them, but in my case this is not possible. I am not sure when goes on after this...

Hi. So when this form was originally saved the fields were hidden until forced visible? Or when were these fields hidden? Was there data originally saved within them? A screenshot or further explanation of how your form fields are setup should help. Also, what specific version are you running of Dynamic Forms and what specific version of DotNetNuke?

    Thanks,

    Chad

    Hi Chad,

I am a little bit further now, and basically what goes wrong is this: I have created a form that contains fields which are hidden (so not hidden until forced visible). For example: the field "status". The values of these fields are automatically filled using the session variable. If the variables have certain values (say: "status" = "OK"), then I use a question event which automatically submits the form and redirects to a "thank you" message.

This means that the form is purely used for administration; I am able to see who has the correct values in their session variables.

After this, it seems to be impossible to edit the form results, because the editting of results takes place in the actual form itself. This form will be filled with the saved values and the form is automatically submitted again!

I hope the problem is clear, do you have any idea what to do about this?

    Thanks, Marc

    Hi Marc,

Unfortunately I really do not know a good way/method around this. You would have to have some pretty custom features or JavaScript to possibly handle this. Something where the JavaScript might be used to update two fields instead of just one, or maybe set the value of a text box to the value of the hidden field and then maybe a SQL Event to update the data.

The other option (and probably preferred and recommended method) to store the data into a flat table and push/pull the data using SQL Events and SQL Binding. This has many more advantages compared to using the built in edit features as you have more power and flexibility. You might review this via Demo 14 and Demo 21 (we will also be doing a truing session soon on this if you want to sign up here):
