We are running DNN 6.1.2. We are a very large government agency with many dynamic forms on our site. Losing the ability to export the results of our dynamic forms to excel poses a HUGE problem as far as reporting goes. PLEASE HELP!! Upon clicking on Export Results to Excel, a few minutes go by and then the dreaded YSOD appears showing a runtime error. Things were working just fine before upgrading DF.

I'm wondering if you ever got an answer to this? We've had to bump up our timeout to 10 minutes and somethimes still timeout trying to export form results.

Yes, sort of... our database guy had to add some indexing to our df tables in the database. There was a stored procedure running over and over and over to pull the results and there was just too much data for it to go through and timed out every time. The DataSprings folks are aware of this and I think are planning to fix this for a future release. In the meantime - here is word for word from our dba:

The sql profiler trace showed that when you made the request to export to excel this stored procedure (DynamicForms_GetDynamicQuestionResponsesUniqueIDAndSummaryField ) was run for each row of data that it needed. Because there are no indexes on any of the dynamic table fileds except for the Primary Key each time this stored procedure was run it did a full table scan of the DynamicForms_QuestionResponse table which has aprox. 350,000 rows to return a sigle row of data. Doing a full tables scan for each row is very slow. I looked at this stored procedure and determined the DynamicForms_QuestionResponse table needed a non clustered index on the
DynamicQuestionID and the UniqueResponseID column which this stored procedure uses. The performance went from just under a 100 ms to 0 ms for each time it is run. There may be a need to add more indexes in the future as you add data to the dynamic forms tables.

Thanks so much Julie. Our DBA added the index in our Dev environment, but we're seeing only a small improvement. I've been aksed to send the trace results to Data Springs. hopefully this will be addressed soon.
