Hi, i have DynamicForms 2.1 and had a quesiton regarding the output when validation is performed. On my form, every field is required, when submitted with nothing entered, i get a list of:

 

* Required Field

* Required Field

* Required Field

* Required Field

* Required Field

* Required Field

 

above my form which looks messy. Can i not just have one:

 

* Required Field

 

apear at the top and not one for each field which is required as it doesn't make sense to the user.

Hi.

Well first I would check and see if you are implementing client side validation or server side validation (setup under general settings). The output is a little different for both options.

With each field you can set the required field text. For example, you should be able to set:

* First Name is a required field
* Last Name is a required field
* Email is a required field

etc....

You can set this text directly where you set the field to be 'required' within each question.

When validation is set to server side i get the validation text which i enter for each field appear above the form like this:

 

* Please enter your Firstname

 

etc...

 

When set to client side, i get a list of:

 

* Required Field

 

above the form and the validation text (or an asterix if left empty) to the right of each text box.

 

Is there more flexibility with the validation so i can have say:

 

* Required Field

 

shown once above the form with an asterix next to each text box?

Hmmm. Ill check on this it should be doing the exact same for both client and server. Additionally, V2.2 will now support the ability to set both the error message (i.e. *) and required field text (i.e. Please enter your first name). The plan right now is too release this by the end of the year and includes many other enhancements as well (content localization, compare validation, additional layout items, etc...).

As far as the 'solution' you might check out the beta of 2.2 on our test site www.betasprings.com. You can login as admin/dnnadmin and check out the newest features (many including extra validation options, content localization, ability to specify multiple questions per row, etc...).
