    DS 3.0 Collection running DNN4.9.1
To allow my users (to migrate from my old non DNN site to my new DNN site,
using the profile from theat they are already registered with.  I wanted to import in all the profile information in to save them from having to reregister on my new site.
I had a lot of trouble with importing my users into my DNN
Because my non DNN site allowed only 4 character usernames and passwords.
with several hundred users not importing. I have changed them to temporary usernames and passwords to allow importing all the proflie info in. Then I thought I could manually change them back using the DR and DL modules.
But it still has the same restrictions as the original DNN authenication.

Is there a way to allow or change the authenication to allow my old users to use thier old passwords login from my old site? (many are just 4 digits) There is not a lot of information about your new authenication module, the user guide really only shows installation, then a one page configuration sheet. (7 pages total)

I think I can delete all of the users, then import again using generate username and password, with the import module sending emails of the new passwords, is this correct (there are only a couple dozen who do not have emails)
It would be the cat's meow to allow them to log in initially with thier old password, then require them to change it to a stronger password.
    What would you suggest

    Hi Pat,

Yes you should be able to do this but I think these are settings in your web.config directly. I know there are settings for minimum password length and possibly for username length as well. Our module uses the DNN Core functions for actually creating users so if you can't create the user in DNN you wouldn't be able to with our modules either (including Dynamic Registration, Interactive User Import/Export etc...)

In your web.config look in the section "AspNetSqlMembershipProvider" and there are multiple settings you can modify here such as minimum password length, require unique email, etc... I didn't see one for minimum username length but you might google around to see if there are settings for that provider and minimum username length. A quick google search for "AspNetSqlMembershipProvider minimum username length" does show many references... You can also use another / your own provider, our module will just make use of any provider you use.

    Thanks,

    -Chad
