    Greetings, all.

I've inherited a couple of DNN portals with login issues, and I'm a little stumped. I'm new to DNN, but I believe the Dynamic Login module may be configured incorrectly.

I get the following error when trying to login with previously existing usernames/passwords (including the superuser and admins):

A critical error has occurred Object reference not set to an instance of an object

I CAN register new users (we're also using the Dynamic Registration module and single sign on feature across portals), and those new users can then log on. But I can't log in as an admin or superuser, which is of course rather a problem.

Is there a way to access the default registration rather than the Dynamic Login module page?

At present, I can't access the SQL server directly, which probably complicates matters.

[I'm using the latest version of the DNN community edition]

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have.

For now take a look at the following link to some previous forum questions with this problem:

What I have seen is that sometimes a change in the web.config is needed. You may need to compare your web.config to the web.config in a fresh install of the DNN version that you have.

You don't mention what is the latest version of DNN that you are on. The latest is DNN 6. but In DNN 5.6.3 the web config needs the new setting for enableEventValidation is "True", in pervious versions it was "False".

When you get to a login point you may look at the following:

If you look in the Event Log, you should see errors. If you look, you might get an idea as to which module is generating the error. Knowing that would be quite helpful. If you want to copy/paste an error message here, I'll take a look at it.

Thanks - yes, the version number would help, wouldn't it? It's actually not as up to date as I was led to believe - 5.6.1

Safe to assume then that the enableEventValidation should remain "false"?

I will attempt to locate the event log (harder without being able to access the DNN admin area).

    Hi Bh,
I have a little info for you on your problem. You might have to query the database for the eventlog table directly, or change the portalsettings table so that it uses the standard DNN Account Login module instead of the Dynamic Login module. Beyond that, it would require Premium Support. If you need premium support help from us then feel free to use this link to get connected with an estimate for that option:

Thanks and let us know what you need
