Hello and thank you in advance...
I am attempting my first (test) import (v. 1.50.41 dnn v 4.9) and it all seems to work (there is an entry under "schedule" and the history gives a 'true' under succeeded). I am only importing 2 users to my portal as the test and they are NOT showing up nor is the email being sent. I have a feeling I am missing something VERY basic.
Also, I cannot find the log files on my site. where shall I look for these?
I apologize if this has been covered, but I did a search and got too many hits to read.
Thank you,
dp |

Hi dp, if you enable logging (step 4), the log should be written to the Host / Schedule history of the IUI import. Please enable logging (checkbox) for "Enable logging (recommend for small distributions)? ". Then you can see if it's actually processing the two users or not. -- David |

Origianally I had specified an incorrect password (it was too short), the logging helped me see this, thank you!
I got the import to work (kind of) the users import, however the email I specify in step 3 (?) does not go out, it appears as if the generic email for a new memebr goes out.
The other problem I am having is that although the log reports the correct (generated) password, the email that goes out reports the username as the password (both are generated automatically).
THANK YOU |

HI, how are you mapping your fields? Can you provide several rows of data and how the fields are mapped to the DNN core? You can smudge out the password / email so it won't be shown here as real. -- David |

I was having the same problem in DNN 5 until I added a Username field to my Excel import file. Now I have a Distribute E-Mail event in Step 3, and a Generate Password command in Step 4, and the correct email gets delivered.
I am also having another problem, but I'll start a new thread for that. |

As suggested, I imported the username (did not let DNN create it) and here is the log:

The emails that were sent are:
You have been added to the portal. Please login using the following information: Username: dxxxxxxxz Password: dxxxxxxxz Sincerely, WEBSITE NAME
As you can see, although the import created the password correctly, it didn't report it correctly to the users. In fact, this email is NOT the email I asked the importer to send.
When I login using the usernames and passwords that were imported/created, I am able to log in as that user, but their rol is incorrect they are only listed as "Subscriber" and I need them listed as "Member"--a role I created and chose in the importer...
Thank you, dp |

I have made screenshots of my import. I uploaded them here.
Again, thank you for your help! |

It just occurred to me that in step 3 I have an email being generated, then again in step 4 I ticked the box that says notify users via email.
I am wondering if the step 4 email overrides the step 3 email. I have just scheduled another import for my test users, which will go off in about 20 minutes, and I will let you know the results...

HI DP, in Step 3, can you choose another option instead of "Only Initial Import" and see if it works for you. I believe there might be a bug in "Only Initial Import" that our developer will need to verify and debug. -- David |

David To,
I tried the above (I chose initial and update), and I STILL got the wrong emails.
Is there a way I can speed up the imports so I dont ahve to wait the 45 minutes before I see the results of my next try?

Yes: After the import, go to the DNN Scheduler, edit the Properties but don't change anything. When you save it, the Scheduler will immediately process the job. |

My experience has been that the Step 4 email overrides the Step 3 email. There's another thread on this forum that suggests NOT using the Step 4 email at all. |

Thank you, Steve. I just tried an import NOT using the step 4 emial, but in the history, I dont see that ANY email was sent. I have checked and I didnt receive an email either...
Honestly, I cant even tell where the "wrong" email is coming from. I checked the "languages" and it doesn't look like that language is there. Also, it is being sent FROM the wrong address. that email is being sent from my personal account, and all the settings I can find state that it should be coming from my webmaster account...

OK, is there a workaround?
Can I import all the users, make up a default password, then email them their username/password and require them to change the password on first login?
I know this isnt secure, but i have spent much to much time troubleshooting this and I need to get the users imported and aware of the site in order to get paid...

when I remove the email in step 4 NO email goes out, when I remove the email in step 3, and activate it in step 4, the WRONG email goes out.
It seems that there is something going on with step 3 email. Can I use the $(email) in the TO field for the email is step 3? that is the only thing I can think that I am gdoing wrong....

Aha! Try using an upper-case E in $(Email). I tried a couple variatons of this, and it seems that the Tokens are case-sensitive. Here's what I'm sending out successfully:
TO: "$(FirstName) $(LastName)" <$(Email)>
SUBJECT: Web Site Account Update
MESSAGE: Your web site account has been updated. Your username and password are noted below.
Username: $(UserName)
Password: $(Password)
Login Here: hard-coded URL

DP: It sounds like both of us need to get our sites populated with users ASAP. I think I'm going to create two different import definitions:
- Create an "Only Initial Imports" definition and just add the the users. No fancy processing, no emails.
- Create an "Only Import Updates" definition using the SAME EXACT data, create the email message in Step 3, and choose "Overwrite Existing Users" in Step 4. (Since my portal is private, I'm also having trouble with the Authorised user settting, so this "Import Updates" would be the place for that SQL statement.)
I hope this works! |

Steve, If I am understanding your problem, try setting the role you are importing to as "Auto Assign". then once theimport is done, change it back. My issue is still not resolved |

OK, so I tried importing using the datasprins software with the hope that I would be able to send a bulk email to all the members with their username and password. when I use the [Membership assword] token, it sends ********. is there another Token I should beusing? Is there a way to send a password to a user? |

Is there a way to send the user his password through Bulk Mail? When I send a mail using [Membership assword] DNN sends ******* to the user. |

Are you testing this with a user who has Host or Admin permissions? Host accounts will receive an email, but the password will be ********. |
