    Hi DS Guys and Gals,

I am trying out Interactive user import for the first time and it seems like a nice module I can use.

I have found a couple issues I'm not sure how to deal with. When I import a CSV file created in excel, excel puts double quotes around any field that has commas in it ... but when the import is performed those double quotes are ignored by the module and consequently are interpreted as delimiters .. thus messing up the data.

So I tried a tab delimited txt file, but the module only seems to recognise CSV, I cannot select txt as a file type, nor specify tabs as the delimiter. I am using IUI 2.0 on DNN 4.9.4

I'm sure you've been asked this question before but I could not find it here on the support forum.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks

    Kelly

HI, sorry for the late response but just got back into the office. Can you check if the filename extension is .txt or .TXT? Also, open it up in notepad to see if it's straight ASCII file and not binary data. IUI 2.0 should be able to import .txt,.TXT,.csv,.CSV,.xls,.XLS files. Also, you cannot specify TAB as the delimiter because it looks at it as blank spaces and would be very difficult to error trap for this. Please try another delimiter. -- David

Here's a tip for anyone trying to figure out how to get Excel to use a delimiter other than a comma when saving as a csv file. Apparently Excel uses the List Separator setting in the Windows Regional settings. So, go to Region and Language in the Control Panel and look for the List Separator setting and change it to a semicolon, for example. Save the Excel file as a csv then go back and change the List Separator back to what it was.
