I have an instance where I am displaying a photo, the name of the business, town and then a description (the biography field). The thing is the bio field lengths vary from like 200 char to 1000.

I would like to just display 200 char of that field so the tableis even. I tried [Biography:200]... but that did not work. Is there something I can put in to that template to limit char number display for that field?

    thanks,

    Will

    Hi Will,

Please visit our Form Demos -- Demo 7 has a comments field with a character limit.  Check it out and see if this will work for you.  Thanks!

    Will,

Hi. I don't know of a way to do this. You would need to run a SQL Script to truncate characters after 200 for a profile field etc... You could use a SQL Event during dynamic registration to update that field. Something like this:

    Declare @MyBio nvarchar(200)
    Set @MyBio = '$(YourDynamicRegBioField')

    Update UserPRofile Set PropertyValue = @MyBio + '...' Where UserID = $(UserID) and PropertyDefinitionID = 400

Something along those lines... That is assuming the property definition ID was 400 for that profile property.

    Thanks for the responses.

To be clear - I do not want to change the actual length of the bio, rather only how it is being displayed in that instance of the DUD. So imagine a staff directory with photo and bio beside it where after 200 char it just had "...more" that linked to their actual profile (I am using Active Social).

So the goal is to make the directory even by equalizing each cell with consistent bio lengths.

    thanks,

    Will

I was looking to do this too. I have a profile field called description where I'd like to show only some of the info in the list page (about 200 characters) and then show the complete description on the detail page.

Would be a nice feature in list/detail scenario, but likely only relevent to bio and custom profile properties. You could do a css overflow hidden trick .. wrap your bio in a div with style="WIDTH: 500px; HEIGHT: 60px; OVERFLOW: hidden". Not the best solution .. but may suffice.
