I recently upgraded to DUD 3.0. It seems this has caused a problem with the Search fields if you use the UserRoles search field. I currently have "contains" search fields for:

    • firstname
    • lastname
    • UserRoles

If I have all three fields in the directory, then no matter what I search for in any of the fields, DUD returns all the users. If I uncheck "Searchable" for UserRoles, the search works as expected. So the problem seems to be linked to the presence of UserRoles.

All the fields use the AND Condition and have an empty (blank) default value.

I tried to replicate this problem on a page on your Betasprings.com site. Here I see different behavior. If you search for "First Name" "Contains" "William", for example, you get the error message:

    A critical error has occurred.

Invalid column name 'UserRoles'. Invalid column name 'UserRoles'.

I'm not sure what's going on here. But I didn't have either of these problems with DUD 2.5.

Can anyone else confirm this problem? Is there a work-around or a fix?

HI, after referring with Chad Nash, the ability to search on UserRoles never worked in the old version of DUD and is not implemented in this manner to begin with. If you want to filter based on roles, you need to do it under Module Configuration. Here, you can pick which roles you want to search on and exclude but it cannot be dynamically changed through a drop down search list option. However, this could be an enhancement we would consider down the line. -- David

Thanks for the update (albeit a little disappointing).

This would be an important feature for my application. I have a large membership directory and users would like to see subsets of it by "category" (as defined by roles).

The UI you have is perfect for what I need, it just needs to work.

For now, I could do a work-around of creating separate views of the directory with different filters on it, but I would look forward to this working as expected in the future if possible. Thanks!

    Hi Larry,

Yes we have added this to review for future updates. Basically all search fields can only be based on profile fields. So you can add a process to maybe update the user profile property based on their role, or maybe create a few profile fields called 'YourRoles' and upon registration update this field with the roles the user has.

The [UserRoles] was added as an option for the templates but not currently a search field. The reason is because UserRoles is generated after the initial data is retrieved. We added this to be a bulleted list within the templates of the roles that users have.

Thanks for your feedback, this would be a very useful enhancement for the future.

I could also benefit from the ability to search based on [UserRoles].
I'm using a Event Registration system that applies a Role to a user when they register for an event. I was hoping I could then allow users to search for other users attending the same event by putting the various user roles into a drop-menu on the search.

I'll see is I can work around it by using different profile fields as you suggested above.
    Thanks!

You can search userroles like this:
    - Search field "userroles"
    - Combobox
    - SQL:
select Description as SearchOption, RoleName as SearchOptionValue from dbo.Roles where RoleID > '2' order by description

    voila.

Hi... Are you referring to the 3.0 release or what version are you doing this on? I think its a great idea but I don't think UserRoles is part of the 3.0 version because of how the search and filtering is now handled (which is faster and fixes other issues but caused this issue).
