Does this module only overwrite the fields that have changed or is the whole user account removed and recreated?

Does this module only overwrite the fields that have changed or is the whole user account removed and recreated? We would like to use dynamic import to supply updates to user accounts – only a couple fields – and not overwrite all of the profile/user account data. Is this possible? thanks, Will Sugg

Hi Will... This module overwrites the fields that are present/changed in the user account module. It doesn't ever remove the user/re-add a new user with the same username etc... So its possibly you could also import just a few properties for updating if you wanted to.

    Thanks,

    Chad

    Hi Chad,

We have an import situation where the registered user has a field (certified organic farm products) that they cannot update. So our plan is once per month to take this field plus their username (from a separate in-house database that we imported the DNN username field into) to match up an import and just change that one field on the website.

Problem is that we tried on a test site (thankfully) and the import with those 2 fields replaced the firstname, lastname, displayname and email with nothing. Just deleted those fields. It did seem to work for the products field though.

Do we have to import those fields too (firstname, lastname, displayname and email)? That would be bad as people in the community (Active Social) have access to change those fields on the website but then there is a separate database in house that has those certified products and they might have outdated email addresses, etc. and we would be importing old data over things they might have recently changed.

    thanks,

    Will

Hi Will… I checked on the source code and it does require these fields/update these fields. We might need to add a feature to ‘Only update profile fields upon update and do not update user credential fields’. If you need us to implement something sooner we can handle this with Premium Support hours (it would fit in with the minimum of 6) otherwise we will add this to the list for future enhancements. Thanks for your understanding.

    Thanks Chad,

Yes I would like to request this as a feature like you outline. We are sketching up a workaround til then using a 'bridge' database. I will post details if it works!

    thanks,

    Will

Thanks Will... We have added this to the list for future releases. Please feel free to post back if your work around worked in case others can use it.

    Hi Chad,

Our SQL guy said he imported the excel data (username, certproducts) to a new table called MonthlyCertUpdate. Then he wrote an update script that updated the UserProfile table from the MonthlyCertUpdate table.

So it was done with the database and SQL.

    thanks,

    Will

    Hi Chad,

Can you give me an estimate on when this feature/change will be added to a future release? We are doing this import on a monthly basis so we really need it.

    thanks,

    Will

    Hi Will,

My best guess would be around 8-12 Premium Support hours. If this is within your budget you can get started by picking up the first 8 at http://www.datasprings.com/Premium-Support.

    Thanks,

    Chad

We have added this to the list for future releases.

Thanks Chad - I will just have to use my workaround until you can add this feature to a future release. Although my method is less convenient I can't justify the premium hours on this project.
