    Hi,

I am using dynamic view to list all student and other relevant info.

On selecting a student, the a page displays all information for that student.

I also want to add  alink to edit the info. How can I do that. Not mentioned in the user guide.

    Regards

    Deepak

    Hi, some questions:
    1) are you using an SQL query to select from an SQL table to retrieve the student info or choosing a Dynamic Forms module?
    2) also, how are you inserting / storing the student information? which module are you using for this purpose? -- David

    Thanks for your response.

    1) Yes, I am using dynamic forms and have am using an event to insert data into the SQL table.

    2) I am using the form copletion events to insert data into the table. My concern is here. The user guide suggests that I use a hidden textbox to decide if data is to be inserted, updated or deleted.

Now to dispaly and edit the data I was suggested to use dynamic forms.

But can I achieve the same with only dynamic forms.

What I need is that if the user selects a existing student, all other relevant data should be fetched. How can I achieve this.

    Regards

    Deepak

HI, yes it's possible but you will need to split it into two forms. Okay, try this methodology:
    1) create one dynamic forms module with the textbox field of Student (but shortname DSParam1). Have it pass and retrieve from querystring variable. Also have a hidden field called DBUpdate and set it to default of True. Also on this form, make sure to redirect it to the same URL on submit.
    2) place another dynamic forms module underneath that with all the relevant fields (including the UserID) for the student to fill out the information (and have an SQL completion event to call as stored procedure to save it to an SQL database table). Also on this module, place a hidden field called DBUpdate to pass along to the stored procedure as well.
    3) in your stored procedure, if DBUpdate = True, then perform update of that record into the SQL table. If not, then insert the record.
    4) This should accomplish what you want by just using two dynamic forms module on the same page.
