    Hi All,

    I would like to use a DNN Region field on my form. I do not want a visable DNN Country field as all of our business is in the states.

    It would appear Region  field becomes a generic text field if the Country field is not added or hidden.

    So how can I pass a default value of "United States" to the Region field without the Country field being present or viewable?

    I have searched for a couple hours however I haven't found anything that points me in the right direction.

    Please explain in detail if this is possible. This is all very new to me.

    Thanks in adavance....

    Jason

    Hi Jason,
    In Dynamic Forms you can have a field named as Country with a short name as Region so it maps to the DNN core. Then in the Advanced Field options have a default value of 'United States'. Then you can make the field hidden and then the user will have no option to be messing with it. Then when all your other fields are set up and you have this form in use the Region field will always be the United States for each record made when the form is filled out and submitted.

    If you haven't done so yet try downloading Dynamic Forms from DataSprings and try their 20 day free trial.  You can get the download from this link: http://www.datasprings.com/products...amic-forms

    Hi Jason,
    As an update to above it might be better to work with a short field name of Country for the Country field instead of Region.
    Thanks

    Hi Don,

    I certainly appreciate your reply. Not sure I am following you or I explained it properly.

    Below is the link to the form I am working on. (Be nice, it's my first try...

    http://suntell.com/custrefer.aspx

    I want the "State" field to appear as a drop down box with the list of states. I believe this maps to DNN Region field.

    I can't figure out how to get this to work properly if the DNN Country field isn't on the page, visable, and above the State (Region) field.

    I know it should be simple... I'm such a noob...

    I also started another form here where I would want the same thing to happen......

    Thanks in advance....

    Jason

    Hi Jason,

    There is a pretty easy solution for this. Simply don't use the DNN Country or DNN Region fields at all, just use a combo box and then use SQL Options. The 'default' SQL query/example SQL query that is within the interface is specifically for that purpose. You could use the SQL (and/or even limit it to only pull in states in the U.S. etc...). So, go this route and therefore you will never need the DNN Region field type.

    Thanks,

    Chad

    Thanks Chad! I guess I was hesitant to dive right into the SQL statements right out of the gate.

    I modified my query to exclude Canada. May save some one a little research in the feature.

    select Text as QuestionOption, Text as QuestionOptionValue from Lists where ParentID= '221'

    Not sure if the ParentID will be the same every time......

    Hey guys,

    First off, thanks for this post, and saved us countless times, and has corrected the peksy postback issues.

    A similar (noob) question. Can we do the same for the country field (use SQL to pull values), and order with US, Mexico, Canada first?

    Thanks,
    Ben

    There's probably an easier way to do this, but I just tossed this out when I saw your question.

    You'll create a stored procedure that pulls in first the list you want in order - and then the rest of your options from the table you designate:

    CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.list_countries
    /*********************************
    Lists countries (or any list you substitute)
    with predefined values you add to the top
    of a table variable and then adds the
    rest of the list from an existing table.

    This assumes you have a table named countries.
    Replace it with the name of the list you
    are using in the query.

    What you're doing is creating a temporary
    list with the values you want at the top
    listed in order.
    **************************************/
    AS

    DECLARE @country TABLE (
    countryOrder INT IDENTITY PRIMARY KEY NONCLUSTERED,
    country VARCHAR(15))

    INSERT @country (country)
    SELECT Country = 'United States'

    INSERT @country (country)
    SELECT Country = 'Canada'
    INSERT @country (country)
    SELECT Country = 'Mexico';

    INSERT @Country (country)
    SELECT country from dbo.countries
    WHERE country NOT IN (SELECT country from @country);

    SELECT country FROM @country
    ORDER BY countryOrder;
