    Hi all...

I'm running Opt-In E-mail 4.3.6 on DNN 6.0.1 with an SMTP server on the same machine. I'm trying to distribute an e-mail to my test list (3 different e-mail addresses) before sending to my subscriber list.

Opt-In is sending me the bulk e-mail confirmation message that the bulk e-mail operation occurred with 3 addressees, but none of the addresses are receiving the e-mail.

When I check the SMTP server log file, I see the log entries for the confirmation e-mail, but not for the bulk e-mail itself. This result occurs for 1) sending a test e-mail (I get the test e-mail confirmation message, but the message itself isn't sent) and 2) sending it to an opt-in list (I get the bulk e-mail confirmation message, but the bulk e-mail is not sent).

I tried the fixes listed in other posts:
    1. Change the e-mail validation string in Admin-->Users-->User Settings
    2. Remove the FROM NAME from the e-mail (and any other place I could find it referenced).

    All to no avail.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. The module was working fine under DNN 5.6, so i'm guessing this is some sort of issue with our upgrade to DNN 6.0.1. Our SMTP settings, firewall settings, etc. haven't changed since it last worked successfully.

    Thanks,

    Tim

    Hi Tim,

A couple of things to check:

    1. Can you please make sure that there is no extra space after the new email validation string?
    2. After you make the change, please go to Host, Host Settings and restart application.

Are you able to now send emails?

    Thanks,
    Candace

Checked... no space after the validation string. Restarted application, and still no change in the behavior. I receive the "Bulk Email Confirmation" e-mail, but none of the three recipients received the e-mail and SMTP log file shows no evidence of the e-mail message being sent.

    Update...

In checking some of the other posts around the site, I tried sending it as a scheduled delivery rather than immediately. Still same behavior. But now, the following is in the Opt-In log file... Any thoughts on how to fix?

There are newsletters scheduled for distribution however there are pending distributions that are either still processing or have failed. You must clear these distributions within the schedulehistory table before the scheduler can continue. Double check to make sure your schedule is processing properly under Host, Schedule, and that your distributions are not overlapping each other. If you continue to receive this notice you should increase the time span for the schedule. You can also check the [ScheduleHistory] table within DNN to clear out previous distributions history if necessary. Note: Another option is to enable the feature within advanced newsletter control panel, module configuration, schedule settings to ignore checks against multiple scheduled instances.

    Hi Tim,

Is your scheduler setup for "Request" or "Timer" method under Host/Host Settings?

One thing you usually can do is clear out the schedule history table and I believe this issue will go away... but I have seem a few problems in DNN 6.01 with the scheduler depending on the method. This is a precaution for DNN installations that are running with a scheduler that might kick off multiple instances at a single time.. What happens is that it does a check to make sure a previous newsletter is not still in the process of sending. If you clear the schedule history do you still receive this error once it kicks off?

    Thanks,

    Chad

    Thanks Chad.

I checked. My scheduler was set for request. Switched it to timer; still same behavior. Upgraded from 4.3.6 to 4.3.71. Still same behavior. Clear the status history table via SQL interface (1.9 million records; discovered that the purge schedule history task had been disabled; reenabled it). Still same behavior.

Restarted the application via Host interface; restarted the website in IIS7, then restarted IIS, then recycled the App Pool Still same behavior. The log file is excerpted below...

    Still no luck...

    Some additional information...

Looks like only the confirmation message is making it to the SMTP server. There's no evidence in the SMTP logs of the three e-mails for the users on the test list making it to the SMTP server, which is consistent with the log history that suggests the e-mails fail. What I don't understand is, if my SMTP settings are wrong as the log file suggests, why is the confirmation e-mail going through? There are only 3 addresses on the list, and the SMTP server is configured to takes batches of up to 250...

    Hi Tim,

One area you might check is the List Cleanup in your Control Panel. I've seen it happen before where I am testing and the distribution failed and my test emails were flagged as failed or bounced back. So it keeps failing that email address in future distributions.

Please check this area and clear out the list. Choose 'Clear entire list (do not remove subscriber), then try a test run again. Let us know what happens.

Thanks Candace. I've checked the list cleanup. It identifies no e-mail addresses as failed e-mails. I went ahead and ran the clean up list task you suggested, but apparently to no avail. Still have the same symptoms.

    Hi Tim,

Sorry for the continued problems... The problems you are having have a common solution/fix. The issue is related to a problem with our modules because of a new bug with DNN 6.x. The issue is supposed to be fixed in the upcoming 06.00.02 version of DotNetNuke. You can find the full Gemini request here:

    http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue...1&PROJID=2

There are many threads related to this so I don't necessarily rehash them here, but basically everything will go away/work properly if you do not use a From Email Name within your scheduled newsletters.

What is happening is that the form email name is being validated against a regular expression that changed in DNN. When we format the email with the embedded from email name the scheduler email task fails.

The fixes you mentioned at the beginning of your post are useful for all of our modules (including this one) EXCEPT we have found that this cannot work for any modules that use the scheduler for the emails that go out... What you are setting in the first post above is a setting that is defined PER PORTAL and in this situation the Opt In Email Schedule runs on a portalless environment.

    Thanks,

    Chad
