Sending to a list of nearly 2,000 subscribers, the schedule stopped part way through with this error:

Sending To (38 of 978 - Maximum of 200 can be distributed with this distribution): ***********@hotmail.com

    From Email Address: newsletter@augustgroup.org

Opt in Email Exception Main Email Loop: Thread was being aborted. at Dataspring.DNN.Modules.OptInAdvanceEmail.SendNewsletters.SendNewsletters()

    Failed Email Address: ***********@hotmail.com

Opt in Email Schedule failed. System.Threading.ThreadAbortException: Thread was being aborted. at Dataspring.DNN.Modules.OptInAdvanceEmail.SendNewsletters.SendNewsletters() at Dataspring.DNN.Modules.OptInAdvanceEmail.SendNewsletters.DoWork() at Dataspring.DNN.Modules.OptInAdvanceEmail.SendNewsletters.SendNewsletters() at Dataspring.DNN.Modules.OptInAdvanceEmail.SendNewsletters.DoWork()

    logging error.

    Logging exception.

The schedule did pick this up again about three hours later and sent out the rest of the list.  What does the above error mean, and what could have caused it?

    Opt-In 4.4.1 / DNN 4.7.0

    Hi guys,

This happens if your server is bouncing or if your app pool is being recycled at the moment. How many are you sending out at a given time?

    Thanks,

    Chad

UPDATE - We've seen this error pop up again, except the module hasn't picked up the process again and completed the send. In order to get the send to finish, we have to clear the logs. Is this a "bug"? Is it something fixed in 4.4?

Hi - Yes, this should be fixed in 4.4 as far as I know as we have not had other users run into it.. But... I believe you might want to try out the trial version first... or you might want to see if the current version has a method of ignoring the flag that usually is set to always verify a previous instance was not running. You can do this under the Opt In Email Advanced Module settings under the "Schedule Settings". There should be a setting to ignore this check which would not require you to clear out the logs to kick off the process again.

    Thanks,

    Chad

Would clearing that flag create the possibility of duplicate emails going out? I seem to recall early in our experience with Opt In, we had that issue because the scheduler would start another instance of sending before the previous one had completed, and duplicates were sent out as a result.

Hello - Yes, unfortunately there would be a potential for that. The real issue is the fact that you need to find out why your DNN site and scheduler keeps kicking off into multiple instances when the first one hasn't finished. Do you have anything on the server that keeps recycling the application pool or anything?

Have you reviewed this blog post?
