DNN v06.01.05 Flash News Ticker 2.0.0

    Hi Chad,

just moved site from development into production. On the development site News Ticker news items displays whether logged in or not.

In production the module is there but not displaying news items unless logged on as Administrator.

Just to confirm I'm talking DNN nor Sharepoint here.

    Module settings are here.

    Update to above post.
As no replies I have done some further investigation.
There are two different XML files produced by the Flash News Ticker ( a preview and a non-preview) these contain the news items in I guess the format that the flash swl needs to populate the flash code. Obviously when displaying as Administrator this is looking up the Preview files whilst as non-admin its only showing the non-preview file.

I then investigated what was happening when non-display of news items was occuring and according to Chrome debug the code was looking for the XML file in an incorrect source location. Remember I had just migrated from Development to Production when new items stopped displaying. Sure enough the incorrect source code was looking for the development portal directory structure rather than production portal directory structure.

I worked around the problem by exporting content from development Flash News Ticker module to an XML file. On Production portal I uninstalled Flash News Ticker and then reinstalled it. Then using the newly installed module I imported the content from the Exported XML file from development.

    Questions: -

    1. Why is module looking for hard coded directory structure rather than relative one. This looks like a possible bug to me.
    2. What causes the module to rewrite the preview and non-preview XML files which the SWL Flash file uses? Adding or modifying a new item doesn't seem to be enough.

    Best regards,

    Alan

    Hi there,

I revisited this problem at the request of the client as they wanted to be able to change news items and settings.

I backed up the XML file with new items.

I uninstalled the module and choose delete all files. I then manually deleted all remaining files and folders left behind in the Portal root and DesktopModules relating to the Flash News Ticker module.

I restarted the application in Host Settings and for good measure I recycled the worker process. I then reinstalled the module and manually input the News Items I had previously backed up.

Touch wood so far this seems to have cured it and the module is displaying changes to site visitors again!

If anyone else gets this problem then the above may help.

    Best regards,

    Alan
