Hi, can someone please tell me:

How do I set Maximum Text Length in Text/HTML Fields in a Dynamic Form I have created.

The field length is quite short so I have to keep creating fields when I would rather just enter all the text into a single field.

1.Can you please advise how I can do this?

    2. Can you please advise if there is a way to set this for multiple forms rather than setting it for each text/html field in each document.

    Thanks

    Chris

    Hello Chris,

Each Dynamic Form is an individual instance and have no commonalities when it comes to relationship.

So once you find the implementation that suits your needs for limiting the number of characters for a Multi-lined textbox, then you would need to re-implement this for each instance of Dynamic Forms.

There is a way to mass update every Text/HTML question within all Dynamic Forms on your site, however this wouldn't be a recommended method as it's possible to corrupt your forms.

Regarding the method you could use to limit Multi-lined text boxes, please review this demonstration:
    http://www.datasprings.com/products...stration-6

Look at the question labeled: "Would you like to pass along any comments?:". There's a tutorial on how to achieve this functionality. If you'd prefer to not show the character count to the user upon typing, then this would require a small tweak of JavaScript to accommodate.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

    Hi Ryan,

Thank you for your feedback. I am a newbie at this and all I really want to do is have a Text/HTML field as long as possible so that I can put an A4 amount of text inside it.

At the moment I seem to be able to only put in a small amount of text in the Text/HTML field of my form, forcing me to create a number of fields when I really only want to have one with the ability to put a lot of text within it.

I do not know how to set up the meaximum field length in a Text/HTML field.

If you could help with this I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks
    Christopher

    Hello Chris,

It sounds like your Text/HTML acceptable # of characters is being truncated.

Unfortunately this will require a SQL Table and Stored Procedure Modifications(to prevent truncation issues).

Because you're trying to store more characters into this field than the database column allows, you're getting an error and the text isn't saving.

In order for me to be of assistance to you, I'll need host access to your website.

If you'd like further assistance please email credentials to rbakerink(at)datasprings(dot)com

    Thanks,

    Ryan

Great to hear, thank you for the follow up Chris.

Here's the summary of the solution:

Altered the Table DynamicForms_Question column "Question" to be datatype nvarchar(max) instead an nvarchar(4000).

Then I had to update the Dynamic Forms stored procedures:

    * DynamicForms_AddDynamicQuestion
    * DynamicForms_UpdateDynamicQuestion

These procedures have a Parameter named "@Question" which is nvarchar(4000). We need to Update these procedures to make the @Question nvarchar(max). That way we can avoid truncation issues.

    Thanks,

    Ryan
