Running Opt In 4.2 on DNN 5.6.3

Yesterday client logged into site and created weekly email out based off last email sent as per normal. They sent test out to check it was OK before sending to main distribution list which it was (test list has client and myself on it only, not sent using Send Test Email function), then sent email out to main distribution list but when we got the email it was messed up, I think it was the text only version instead of the HTML formatted version.

This has now happened twice, send to test list is fine, send to main list is not.

The only thing that changed was the use of the $OptOutAll merge tag which we added to the top of the template. I just noticed however that the merge tag is spelt incorrectly as $OptOutALL with capital LL

Could the incorrect merge tag be the cause of the HTML formatted email not sending out correctly?

The weird thing is that my client and I got the unformatted version of the email but someone else in my office got the HTML version as normal.

Could really use some advice on this one!

From further testing it looks like its not the text version of the email as set out in the Opt In email but a plain text version of the HTML email and it seems to include weird characters for example:

You are receiving this&nb sp;email because you are subscribed to

(note: there is no space between the b and s character above in the email, I spaced it here so it would display in the post)

This doesn't explain why it only does this when we send to our main distribution list only though?

Hi Duo - Do you have any alternate email settings setup under the Opt In Email Advanced Control Panel? Also - Are these subscribers setup within both the main list and also a test list you can test with?

How were these subscribers added? Were they added manually, imported etc?

One more item to note is that the 4.2 release is a couple of years old. So, it is possible that this is something that was changed or corrected in either the 4.3 or 4.4 release so you might want to consider upgrading to the latest version for full support against the latest versions of DotNetNuke (especially because the email functions changed within the latest versions of DNN).

    Thanks,

    Chad

    Hi Chad,

Under Alternate Config I have our usual mail server set up with anonymous authentication. The subscribers were subscribed though the opt in module, we have 2 lists, one is our main dist list with 378 subscribers and the other is a test list that has four subscribers. I'm on both lists and when I send myself an email to the test list it shows up fine, send exact same email to main dist list and I get plain text.

One thing to note is that the schedule history for Dataspring.DNN.Modules.OptInAdvanceEmail.SendNewsletters,Dataspring.DNN.Modules.OptInAdvanceEmail

has some pretty weird looking entries. I'm logging email body and it looks like the emails start truncating more and more after a number of emails have gone out until there is pretty much no text in the email at all.

I had scheduler set to send 1200 per schedule every 4 hours, I've just changed that to 50 every 30 mins as I wondered if sending the entire list at once was loading up the server too much. Does this sound possible?

Chad, I'd been keen for you to see the history, is that possible if I give you a login?

What would be the best version to upgrade too for DNN 5.6.3 and what is the cost? I'd need to get agreement from my client on that.

    Thanks for your help!

Hi Chad, I've purchased and installed over the v4.2 install the latest version 4.4 of Opt In. The upgrade went well with no errors and test emails are sending fine. Will be doing a send out to the main list tomorrow so fingers crossed, will let you know how it goes...
