    Hi,

I have a standard captcha on my registration form. I have enabled server side validation under Validation Configuration and made it a required field. It works well for initial registrations.

However, upon trying to update the registration, I enter the required information, complete the new Captcha, but the required field validation error gets thrown each time.

Can someone please let me know how to resolve this?

I would be happy enough having the captcha only show for initial registrations but again I am unsure of how to go about this.

    Thanks,

    Jimmy.

Hi Jimmy - Yes, this would be pretty common (to not always have the CAPTCHA shown for updated users) however I am not really sure why it also would not work. Since the user is signed in though, they are obviously not a BOT and therefore the CAPTCHA should not really be required anyway.

So... What you probably want to do is change the "Hide/Show" property to only show for Admins and then make sure the checkbox is setup to also show for anonymous users (I guess make sure its NOT checked to hide for anonymous users). This way, when the user is registering they are presented with the CAPTCHA field and when they are signed in (unless they have admin rights) they would not see the specific field.

Let me know if you have any questions!

    Thanks,

    Chad

    Hi Chad,

Thanks for your response and sorry for the delay in replying. I have tried what you suggest (I think!) and also various other combinations of show and hide, all to no avail. The Captcha keeps showing.

For clarification, we would like to edit users' details when they notify us of changes over the telephone or by email. So we go into Manage Users, select the user, and try to do it that way. However, the captcha still shows.

We have tried setting the "Show / Hide" option for the captcha to Show and unticking all roles, and alternatively set the "Show / Hide" option to Hide and then ticked all the roles. The "Hide from Anonymous Users" is unticked. (I must admit to never fully understanding what "Hide / show fields by role" does, and whether it relates to the "Hide question from these roles" question, but we have tried many combinations!)

Still we get the captcha showing, and the validation message appears even though the captcha text has been correctly entered.

Your further help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    UPDATE:

I have disabled Server Side Validation in the mpdule configuration and I can now update successfully, but we require Server Side Validation for other questions on the form.

Hi Jim - This might be a great time to ask a few questions related to your versions of Dynamic Registration and your versions of DotNetNuke. You might also let us know any other specifics related to your implementation such as if the URL is unique / standard URL, if CAPTCHA works within DotNetNuke in other areas etc...

    Thanks,

    Chad

    Hi Chad,

    Indeed, it would help!

DNN is 05.06.06 (using an old module whose support has expired and won't let me upgrade core much further)

    Using Dynamic Registration 04.20.20

Runs on Windows 2008 R2, fully patched, and App Pool running on v4 of framework if that helps.

I don't use the captcha elsewhere on the site, but can confirm that if I start from scratch again the problem is still there.
