Since a DNN update a problem occurs when exporting the results of a dynamic form to Excel: A return in a multi-line text box results in a new row in excel. The return of the multi-line text is HEX 0A (a line feed).

Previously, a return resulted in a text return in Excel.

But now, because of the new rows, the results in Excel are cluttered.

How can I solve this problem?

    Thanks in advance

    Hello NVK,

What version of DotNetNuke did you upgrade to?

What version of Dynamic Forms is installed?

    Please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

Hello. Please get the latest patch which is Dynamic Forms 4.1.40. From your DNN STore account, you can get this either from Patches or My Downloads and let us know if it clears up the issue for you.

    Thanks!

    Hello NVK,

If the upgrade doesn't fix the issue, you can use JavaScript to disable the use of the ENTER key for your Multi-lined textboxes. You would apply the necessary JavaScript in the Client side section of your Dynamic Form multi-lined textboxes that are vulnerable to this.

Both of these threads offer a great insight as to how to perform this:

    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...-enter-key

    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...-enter-key

You can always go to Google and search for "JavaScript disable return key", you'll find an abundance of examples of how to achieve this.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

    Hi Antoine,

Let me jump in here for a moment. The initial zip file for the Collection 6.0 should have the Dynamic Forms 4.1.40. Would you please check your Collection file again or check your version? I just want to make sure you get the right file. If you still don't see it, would you please use the Contact form and send me your invoice number so I can investigate for you? Please add a link to the forum thread in your message.

    Thanks!

    hi candace and ryan,
sorry didn't look well... I have updated to 4.1.40, but that didn't solve the problem.

I don't like to juggle with java script myself; can you solve this in the the next release and if yes, when will that be ??

    Regards

    hi,

did some additional testing; the use of a ; in a multiline textfield also leads to export problems. it creates an extra field in excel because it is used as a delimiter....

so maybe we need a whole range of characters to be excluded ???? or is there a better solution ??

    regards

Just wanted to let you know I have this exact same problem and posted my own question in the forums for how to solve this. I found that if dynamic forms were to use quotation marks around multi-line text fields when exporting to Excel, the problem is solved.

To me, disabling the Return key in javascript is cumbersome and not the best solution since we want to be able to keep line feeds in the data. We just don't want it to export them as it causes problems with Excel as you have found.

thx rob, hope that datasprings will solve the problem in the next release. I don'want to use javascript either......

I now use notepad++ to remove the linefeeds in the csv-file before importing in excel as a workaround

Hi Guys - So the solution you want us to implement is to wrap multi line textbox field values with quotes when exporting to Excel?

    Thanks,

    Chad

    Hi Chad,

no; we want you to delete the the line feed in multi textboxes because when you import a row with a line feed in it in excel, excel starts a new row. and this messes up the exports we make of the form results (see the first post in this thread)

if you want we can send you examples by mail ??

    regards
    antoine
