I am trying to use the image field in Dynamic Registation form to show an image in the detail section of the User Directory module. So far I havent been able to do this because I cant figure out how to create an image field in the DNN profile section. Is there a way to make this work? Thanks

Hi. Yes there is a way to make this work. Below are the basics.

    1. Setup a text only field in the DNN Core area under Admin, User Accounts, Manage Profile Properties. Just make this a text column with a max length of about 200 characters. For our example lets say you name this field MyUserImage.

    2. Setup a Dynamic Field (an image field type) within Dynamic Registration. This dynamic field should 'link' to the core field under the advanced field settings on the property 'DNN Core Field'

So far you created a core extended field and an image dynamic field that updtes the core property.

    3. Add the Dynamic User Directory module to a page, make sure you setup the settings and then when you are ready setup the user directory template. Now, here comes the key. Either in the item or detail template include the token [MyUserImage] (or whatever you named your field in step 1). Finally, you will need to actually setup the image to include the full patch and so forth. So, for example the HTML would look like this:

This example assumes the portal ID is 0 and you need to switch out www.yoursite.com with your actual domain. Also, the < img tag needs to have the < next to img (I just can't do this because it will render an actual image in this forum thread).

    < img src="http://www.yoursite.com/portals/0/Dynamic-Registration_Images/[MyUserImage]" >

That should do it... Let me know if you run into any problems.

    2 Questions ...

    1. Is there a way to display the thumbnail and link to the full size image?
    2. Is there a way to not show the image if one does not exist? (I am thinking not but I am hopeful)

    Thanks, Dan

Well... Yes and yes.... We are working on creating a tutorial for this but its not yet there... You can already check this working at http://dynregdemo.datasprings.com however we do not have the tutorial working outlining the specific steps. Basically...

    1. You have the same steps as above but instead of showing the [Image] field within the image HTML source you show tn_[Image] which will show the thumbnail. You then click the chain icon and make it a hyperlink to the main [Image] etc... You can check it out at the dynregdemo.datasprings.com and Candace is working on a tutorial that covers the how to on this.

    2. You can setup a SQL completion event to set the users property if they don't enter an image to a static URL image... This way if the user doesn't choose an image the system will have a default one. We have a forum thread that outlines this here.

    http://www.datasprings.com/Products....aspx#1927

    Hope this helps!

Thanks. I have not gotten around to it yet but I plan to add this to my user profiles on my site. Thanks for the response. Dan

Was a tutorial explaining how to include an image in the directory ever created? This would be very useful.

I see that thumbnails now have the prefix "Thumb_" instead of "tn_".

What is the downside of setting a default image for new users (instead of using an SQL completion event)?

Since adding images to a directory is a fairly common application and the explanations on how to do this in this thread and the "default image" thread are somewhat complex involving hacking with SQL, etc., it would seem better to include support for this scenario directly in the module itself. Please add it your "wish list" for the future. Thanks!
