If anyone has come across this and figured a way to make it work...

Using the new client side calculation on check boxes I can get the total value without much problem in a text/html or textbox, etc.  Works great.  However, the text/html will not save to the database and the textbox allows the user to change the value...

I have tried hidden fields, read only text box, hidden until user event etc.  but can't seem to come up with a away to save the calculated value to the database without the user having the ability to update it first...

thoughts?

Hi. I was able to get this work on this test page showing creating a calculation field total.

 

This specific example uses a read only textbox so that the user cannot change the value. I am going to have to double check though for hidden field and see what is  needed. Within these client side events there are multiple options such as $(ShortFieldName), $(ShortFieldName_FieldID), $(ShortFieldName_Field), $(ShortFieldName_ValueFieldID) and they all have some specific purpose.

I am setting up a registration form where the number of registrants determines the total registration cost. I want to have a field which will display the registration total based on the same combo box which determines how many registration fields will be shown rather than hidden.

I tried putting the following code into the Client Side code in both the combo box and in the hidden field where I would like to put the total.

$(TotalReg) = 4 * $(NoAtt)

When I put it onto the combo box, it initially shows the value then throws an error on the load and resets the combo box to the default value.

When I put the code into the Total box it throws the error and resets the combo box.

Any Ideas?

Hi. Can you setup your form or a copy of your form using IPORTABLE Export Content / Import content on www.betasprings.com (login as host/dnnhost). This will help us in getting a better idea specifically for your requirements and so forth. Also, if you are signed in as the admin you can add &Debug=True to the querystring or if you are using friendly URLS /Debug/True/ and at the top of the page you should see the exact javascript that is being used. Either way this will help out if you setup the form on Beta Springs.

OK, I have placed a form onto the betasprings website. It is Vineleaf Test Page. On this, I added two fields.
1) A Combo box which allows me to choose the number of attendees
2) A Total Registration field where I want to put the total based on what the choice is.

I have client side code in the combo box as follows: $(TotalReg) = $(NoAtt)* 4. This calculates the total price of the registrations.

I also added an event which unhides the Total Registration field. That isn’t necessary but it is a simple demonstration of what I am trying to do.

If I don’t have the Question Event, the field calculates correctly.
When I add the Question Event, the calculation is overwritten.
I added a third field which is another combo box which calculates the total without the Question Event.
This field works fine.

I can only surmise the following:
Client Side Code is immediately executed.
Question Events affecting the same question ignores the Client site code and therefore my calculation is overwritten.
