Hello,

I am new to DNN and Dynamic Registration.  Last week I installed Dynamic Reg 2.1 with no problems.  Today, when I tried to install version 2.2 I received the following error messages.  That do these mean and how do I fix them?

Thanks,
Chip

Chip,

Check out this post, I outline how to get around this error and that its a DNN 4.3.4 core bug that will be fixed in 4.3.5.

Thanks Chad,

I looked into this and my ISP said they could not change the permissions settings. I am running on a shared server. They say it is a problem with the module. Once before they made that change and it ended up screwing up all the ASP.net 2.0 sites on the entire server. Since that is not possible, does this problem exist under DNN 4.3.3? Unless there is a compelling reason why I should never run 4.3.3., maybe my ISP would switch to the older version to solve the problem.

My other question has to do with something I read in one of the posts you suggested. Charles Nurse said...

The problem is the following line

Dim webConfig As System.Configuration.Configuration = WebConfigurationManager.OpenWebConfiguration(Globals.ApplicationPath)

should be

Dim webConfig As System.Configuration.Configuration = WebConfigurationManager.OpenWebConfiguration(Globals.ApplicationPath & "/")

Would the above fix the problem? And if so, is that something that either my ISP or I can change? Being new to .net the above is greek to me. I would need instructions how to make the change.

Thanks Chad!

I would suggest waiting until DotNetNuke 4.3.5 comes out. The changes they are talking about actually would require downloading the source for 4.3.4 and making the change in the code and the recompiling. This problem did not exist in 4.3.3 however a security exist so I wouldn't suggest that too. Hopefully 4.3.5 will be out soon and it will fix this issue.

You also have the option of manually installing it, or moving back to 4.3.2.

Chad,

Thanks for the quick turn around.  I just posted a question at DotNukeNet to try and learn if 4.3.5 is days, weeks or months away.  If it is a ways off, are there any big issues/risks of having my ISP downgrade my portal from 4.3.4 to 4.3.2?  Have you seen or tested that the module will work on 4.3.2?

Hi. Yes the module works great on 4.3.x so that is one solution. For anyone wanting to manually install it and not wait for 4.3.5 or go back to 4.3.2 you can do these steps:

First - The easiest way to get around the problem is to change the permissions on that folder: C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727

If you can't do that (if your host won't allow it) then you can open the .dnn file in the zip file and within that file it will show you directories and where they go.

Step 1: Just take note of the items that say "App_Code" within the folder name.

Step 2: Manually create a directory under yoursite\App_code\Dynamic Registration

Step 3: Copy the .vb files that you took note of in Step 1 to the directory you created in step 2

Step 4: I would just remove all of the app_code entries in the .dnn file and then install it. The app_code entries are whats causing a problem with DNN 4.3.4 only, plus the installation will still be able to copy the other files and also execute the SQL script.

Chad,

Thank you for the tip.   I want to try the manual installation, but have some questions about it as I have little/no experience with this. (Note: I am in the process of purchasing the DNN 4.3.4 user guide from DNNguide.com, but for some reason their site is not confirming my registration so I cannot purchase it yet.)

First, you say to "create a directory under mysite\App_code\Dynamic Registration." I assume I do this under File Manager.

(1) Do I create this folder at the site level through the Admin account or the portal level through the Host account?
(2) What permissions should the folder have?
(3) Is it an Insecure-File, Secure-File or Secure-Database folder?

I want to be sure I am reading the .dnn file correctly. Is it correct that the following lines of code means that DataProvider.vb should be manually uploaded to my custom directory?

          [app_code]
            DataProvider.vb

If so, I identified the following files that need to be removed from the dnn file and manually uploaded to the new directory.  Is this list correct?

DataProvider.vb
DateControl.ascx.vb
clsDynamicLabel.vb
clsGlobals.vb
DynamicEventController.vb
DynamicEventInfo.vb
DynamicBlackListResponse.vb
DynamicQuestionRoleController.vb
DynamicQuestionRoleInfo.vb
DynamicQuestionController.vb
DynamicQuestionInfo.vb
DynamicQuestionOptionsController.vb
DynamicQuestionOptionsInfo.vb
DynamicResponseController.vb
DynamicRegistrationQuestions.ascx.vb
DynamicResponseInfo.vb
DynamicSQLOption.vb
OptInCategoryController.vb
OptInCategoryInfo.vb
OptInEmailCategoryController.vb
OptInEmailCategoryInfo.vb
OptInEmailController.vb
ManageUsers.ascx.vb
OptInEmailInfo.vb
SqlDataProvider.vb

Finally, once the above files are copied and the dnn file is modified, do I simply re-install version 2.2 over the failed earlier installation?

As always, thanks for your help.  I cannot wait to start working with Dynamic Registration!

Oops - most of the code I referred to was stripped out. I will try this again replacing the < and the > with a -.

-file-
-path-[app_code]-/path-
-name-DataProvider.vb-/name-
-/file-
