We use Dynamic Forms for a "Contact Us" form on our web site. In addition to the emails that are dispatched immediately by a completion event, I run a weekly report against the database that pulls all the form submissions. Occassionally I come across a record in the database that we didn't get the email for. It is usually only one email that failed when the rest went through successfully.
Our email server is set as the SMTP server in DNN and it is also the destination for the emails. Our email administrator doesn't see any sign of the missing emails hitting our system.
Any suggestions for how to debug this? |

Our problem seems a little bit different from VJ's. We get most of the emails from DF. It's just an occasional one that falls through the cracks. |

Hi. It's a little difficult to pin down an issue when it's not easily duplicated and only occurs every now and then. However, there are things we can consider:
1. This might be related to system timeouts when the email is being sent.
2. Can you find any common factors in the records with failed emails? Is this a case where maybe the users are entering incorrect email addresses?
3. Do you see any related errors in Admin, Event Viewer?
Thanks,
Candace

Do you by chance have a date field on the form? We found a few issues where emails were not coming through when using the specific date field and the data wasn't validated properly. -Chad |

Thanks for your help Candice and Chad. This is tough to debug because every time I have sent a test message, it has come through just fine. I don't notice the missing mail until I get the weekly report, so it is hard to catch the system at the moment of the error. There is no date field on the form, so it wouldn't be date validation. The only validation rules are just some required fields. There's no fancy javascript or anything. How would I tell if it is related to system timeouts? We do sometimes have less than optimal performance. This sounds like a possible lead. I set up the form to always send to and from the same valid email addresses. The user's email address is included in the email body. That way if they enter an invalid email address, the form still sends. I'll keep watching the event viewer. I haven't found anything yet. Thanks again for your help! |

Hi there,
I also noticed that some emails got lost or never got send. What I saw what they have in common is that when in a textbox you use quotes (such as : John "Stevenson" ) and this is used as a message parameter in the 'email subject' or 'From email name', then the email never arrives...
Single quotes seem to not cause any problems.

Hi Sean, Does the problem seem to happen within Dynamic Forms or even in DotNetNuke when you go to Admin, Bulk Email or Admin, Newsletters? -Chad

Hi Chad,
Any solution for this problem? Or else is there a way to validate the field so the use of " " is not possible?
Thanks!
