    Hi All,

Just purchased Dynamic Forms and I have what might be a simple question. I have done a search of the forums and the docs, but can't find an answer (might just be me though)

I want to select a Summary Field for when my officers view results of the form. Now I don't want to use just Lastname or just Firstname and would like to include one of the fields in the form. Ideally I would like to use "Lastname, Firstname - ApplicationField" (ApplicationField is the name of one of my fields that the user completes)

So, on the view results page it would show something like "Doe, John - 3435 Frankie"

Any ideas on how one would go about this? I have tried to use a hidden field that has a default value of $(LastName) + $(FirstName) + $(ApplicationField) but this doesn't work. I'm not sure on how to compile it.

    Any help appreciated.

    Hi Marc,

Well, you have a view options here...
    1. Within the Dynamic Forms module configuration there is a setting called 'Summary Field' and within that area you can define what field you want to be the summary field. One thing you could do would be to define a hidden field that could be called 'MySummary' and use a client side event to set the value of your combination of fields. Something like:
$(MySummary) = $(FirstName) + ' ' + $(LastName) ' ' + $(ApplicationField) etc... You would want to put that client side event on any field that would affect the value such as in the firstname, lastname, application field client side events area under advanced field options. This way the hidden field would represent all of those fields combined and that would be your summary field.

    2. Another option with much more power and flexibility would be to use Dynamic Views. Dynamic Views is another module you can find at http://www.datasprings.com/Dynamic-Views and includes many more configuration options, ability to search, filter, and so forth... This module has a direct build in integration option with Dynamic Forms.

    Thanks!

    -Chad

    Hi Chad,

Many thanks for the reply. With option 1, would that work if the fields where already set to default. For example the Firstname field is automatically completed using dnn core information so the users wont tend to change it.

Hi. It should work, in that case you might also put the client side event in the 'On Save JavaScript' under control panel, module configuration, custom JavaScript area. Client Side Events are pretty touchy so if it doesn't work I would enable 'Debug Mode' and review the client side event generated via FireBug for FireFox.

    Thanks!

    Hey Chad,

    Many thanks. OK, so do I simply put "$(MySummary) = $(FirstName) + ' ' + $(LastName) ' ' + $(ApplicationField)" in the Javascript Submit / Save JavaScript box?

    Hello Marc,

Yes that is the spot you will place this code.

If you have any questions please let us know.

    Thanks,
