    Good evening,
I've been struggling with this one for quite some time now. It doesn't sound like it should be this difficult which is only adding to the frustration. I'm simply trying to pass my UCID from my step 1 form to step 2, while also making it available for use in a SQL query. Here are two scenarios that I've tried and have gotten close with:

    1) On step 1 form, chose the option to 'pass UniqueCompletionID'. On step 2 form, create a field named 'UniqueCompletionID' and set it to retrieve from session variable. The problem with this is I cannot use this field in my SQL statement. Adding another field named 'DSParam1' and setting it equal to $(UniqueCompletionID) does not work.

    2) On step 1 form, create a textbox field named 'DSParam1' with a default value of $(UniqueCompletionID) and set it to pass value to querystring variable. On step 2, create a hidden field named 'DSParam1' and set it to retrieve from querystring. This works great and I'm able to use this field in my SQL statement. The deal breaker - I don't want the field visible on step 1 and as soon as I change it from textbox to hidden field it stops working.

What am I missing in my attempts to pass my UCID from step 1 as a SQL parameter in step 2?

    Really appreciate the help!!

    Hello Doug,

So you're trying to SQL bind based on the uniquecompletionID on the second form on another page?

Basically you need to make sure that all columns in the database match the short names of your fields.

    Let me explain:

If you're trying to pull back a first name via the uniqueCompletionID and in the table the column which stores the first name is named FirstName, you will need to have a question field on your form that has the short name FirstName.

So you need your short field names to match the name of the columns with the corresponding data that you wish to SQL bind.

Please let me know if this helps you Doug.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

    Hi Ryan,

I appreciate your response and for clearing up the way SQL binding works. I have actually been able to get my scenario working after a lot of trial and error. Let me explain for the sake of anyone else that may come across a similar scenario....I have 5 total questions that drive the pricing on our product. One is a text box in order to get a precise dollar amount. Due to the inability to pass text box values as SQL parameters, I've split these 5 questions into two forms and am writing my values to a staging table in SQL and then updating that table in step two. The issue was not SQL binding, but rather using the answer of one of my radio button questions on step one to drive the results of a radio button field in step 2. In order to retrieve the values of step 1 for that same session I am using the UCID (which I inserted into my staging table along with the 3 response values). The two scenarios I mentioned above did not work, along with a couple others, but here is what I eventually got to work.

I have a hidden field on step 1 named DSParam1 and have the default value set to $(UniqueCompletionID). I also have it set to pass the values to querystring variable. In step 2 I then have a DSParam1 set to retrieve from querystring, and I am able to use '$(DSParam1)' as a variable in my SQL driven radio button field in step 2.

Hope this saves someone some time in the future!

This same issue has given me a TON of trouble as well and I have read Demo 31 so many times I can recite it like the lords prayer!
The missing step in Demo31 is the following:

make a hidden field on step 1 named DSParam1 and have the default value set to $(UniqueCompletionID).

Without this default value, the DSParam1 is not passed (blank). Could someone please add that little tidbit in demo 31. Some of us are getting awefully flat heads from banging them against the wall!
