I recently upgraded to the latest Dynamic Forms and when I went to download my submission in Excel all the information is in on column.

What do I need to do so that I can get the fields in separate columns.

Should I adding an Alternate CSV Delimiter: under View Results Options? If yes, what should it be?

    Thanks

    Hello Ginnie,

Can you please let me know the DNN version you're running on along with the version of Dynamic Forms you're using?

Possibly try a ';' semicolon for the Delimiter and let me know what happens.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

    Hi Ryan,

I am using DotNetNuke 05.06.00 (459) and DF version 3.40.30. I have tried the ";" but it does not work.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks

I am having the same problem after updating to 3.4.30

One of my answers has a "," in it. This has always worked in the past as this form has been around for a while. After the update, it doesn't work correctly. If I put the "," as the delimiter in the module configuration, all rows with a "Yes, I can help" entry get messed up.

Any chance of a patch very very soon?

    Hello Ginnie and Kevin,

I will have this reported to the dev team to see what their take on this is.

In the meantime I will test this to see if this is an issue only in DF 3.4.3.

If either of you have any questions please let me know.

    Thanks, I'll be in touch.

Any update on this?  It does not make it easy when downloading form submissions.

    Thanks

I just encountered this issue as well. I'm only able to have the form results open properly in Excel if I save the file first, then open in Excel (where it then interprets the tab delimiting). Didn't have to do this with DF 3.40.10 version, just the newer versions.

    Hi Cheryl,

One of the new features in Dynamic Forms allows you to choose your delimiter. Sometimes, there are commas in the form responses and that can mess up the export if you're using a comma as your delimiter. Please go to View Form Results and choose an alternative delimiter like a #. Thanks!

Can you try what Cheryl stated? Please let us know if this helps you open your Excel files.

    Thanks,

    Hi Ryan
I tried that what Cheryl mentioned and what Candace mentioned but it still does not work. It puts all the information in the same column rather than split it. like below
    First_Name#LastName#Email#Date_Requested#Street#City#State#PostalCode#Tele#Interest#Resource_detail#Comments#.

    Thanks

I am still having problems. If the user puts in a comma, the whole thing fails!

This needs to get fixed! It used to work just fine.

It is typical for a .CSV file to have text fields enclosed on double quotes for this purpose. I think DF used to do that, but no longer.

    Hello Kevin,

Can you please let me know the DNN version and the version of Dynamic Forms that you're using?

Also are there any other modules on the page other than the Dynamic forms?? Just asking to see if a code conflict is a possibility.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

I tried a "#" as the delimiter and got very strange results. Some fields were combined, some were split out... but pieces of fields were missing and then the whole alphabet is showing at the end of some of them.

I am using Dynamic Forms 3.40.30 on DNN 05.06.00

There are many forms that don't work, some are solo on a page, some are with other HTML modules on them.

Unfortunately, the form results are nearly useless at this point.

All of these forms worked fine in previous verions of dynamic forms.

Same thing here.  Use to work fine before I upgraded.  Any updates?  Should I send an email to your support address?

Hi Kevin / Ginnie - Can you tell me what you have for 'Alternate Delimiter'? This was added as a feature to support issues where adding a , within the form field results would cause an export problem.

So first I am curious what delimiter you are using and also what specifically is happening. Is it exporting a file at all? Are you saving the file as CSV and then importing it into Excel and choosing the delimiter etc?

We have started using another Excel component directly instead of building a CSV file. We have moved this into Interactive User Import and Opt In Email directly so we might be able to also add this feature into the view form results.

    Thanks,

    Chad

    Hi Chad,

I have tried not have a delimiter, as well as a , : and #.  None of them work.

I clicked on export results and the file I get has all the information in one column.  I have tried using excel and csv and none of it works.

I can send you the files I get so that you can see what we mean.

    Thanks

Just FYI... I'm on 3.4.4 and had the same problem, but there's a slight workaround.

In addition to using a custom delimiter (I used the pipe symbol "|"), you also need to rename the exported xls to something else (I used .txt)

If you open the file, excel appears to get confused from the delimited text content in an apparent xls file. It errors, but will continue to open when forced.

Or maybe just opening it up in notepad fixed it... but either way, I was able to open in Excel and use Text to Columns successfully.

One more note... Ginnie et al... when you get it all in one column, are you then using the Excel Text to Columns function?

    Hi Ginnie -

    Can you try these steps?

    1. Save the file
    2. Rename the file as .csv or .txt instead of .xls
    3. Click Import from Text file within Excel

    Does everything work then?

    Basically here is what happened:
    1. We use to render the file with code where we could had our own ‘Header’ to the file letting Excel know to open it as a text file
    2. We saved it as XLS and it never really was a problem because of #1 above
    3. The solution above wouldn’t work if the site used SSL
    4. We modified the solution to just pull the file directly by itself off of the server instead of streaming it… that’s apparently what is causing the problem. So we fixed the bug for users with SSL but it caused another bug. This wasn’t fixed until 3.3 or 3.4 which is why this problem came about after your upgrade.

Here is what we are planning to do about this in the 3.5 release:
    1. Let the user choose if they want CSV, XLS, XLSX as the format
    2. If XLS/XLSX is chosen we will be using a 3rd party Excel component module that we have also used in a few other products recently such as Opt In Email and Interactive User Import to export the results.

    Thanks,

    -Chad

    Hi
    I have the same problem.
    I am using...

    DNN 5.6.1
    DF: 3.40.50.0

I don't see any option to change "delimiter"

The moment I click on "View Form Results", it takes me to the Form Results window. I only have options:

    Manage Results Template
    Export all results to Excel
    Purge All Results

When I click on "Export all results to Excel", It downloads XLS file. While opening, it gives a warning; finally when it opens, I see several fields joined together in one column. I have 30 - 40 fields on the form; the XLS file has about 10 columns.

The Top row, has the form fields "concatenated" like..
    FirstName*LastName*Address*City*State*ZIP*Phone

    The data shows like this:
    JohnDoe123MainStreetMainCityMD123458886665544

    Is there any work-around???

    Thanks,
    VJ

Use the Excel command "Text To Columns" to separate the single column into multiple columns.

Has any progress been made fixing this? It is coming up on busy time for my website, and I would really like to have this fixed. Otherwise, we spend hours trying to deal with it.

    Thanks

    Hi All,
I have seen a number of issues with the Excel Export so I wanted to investigate this. What I found was that the view export in a sample situation produced an EXCEL file export that displayed corrupted results.

What I did was change the file extension to .txt format like J.R. Pitts suggested. Then what I did was open excel and choose the text file for import. I had to experiment with different delimiter and output options in excel but I did find one that worked.

While I appreciate that a workaround can be cobbled together, the users of my form are not savvy enough to perform these steps. I want them to be able to export the results directly into Excel like it used to do.

Is there any chance that it will be fixed or are we toast?

    Hi Kevin,
I don't know that there is anything in the works for addressing this issue at this time. All that I can say is that I am making an email forward for development to look at. Sorry that I cannot be of more help.

    Hi guys,

Just wanted to share that Chad said this issue has been fixed in the upcoming Dynamic Forms 4.0 which scheduled for release around the 1st or 2nd week of November, barring some unexpected release delays. Watch out for announcements. Thanks!
