    Hi,

we use DNN 4.9.5 with DF 3.4.1 and I would like to select a special value inside of a dropdown list as default value.

But more specific: we use a form to gather information, the results are stored in a table via SQL-insert-statement. There is also a form to edit information. Some of this information comes from a dropdown-list. Is it possible to select a specific value as default value?

For example: there is a dropdown-list with the value a,b,c,d. When I enter the information I select the value c. These information are stored in a specific table. To edit this information, I use a form and each field holds a SQL-Statement to get the value. How can I do this for a dropdown-list to auto-select the value c as default value?

    Best regrads,

    Jörg

    Hello Jörg,

So basically if a user initially selected "C" then submitted the form and came back to edit this Combo box from "C" to another selection, "C" will be the selected value until the user changes it??

If this is the functionality you're looking for, I would recommend using SQL binding or a query string parameter to retrieve the previous selected value.

I would encourage you to look into our user guide to learn how to use querystring variables and SQL binding:

If you have any questions please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

    Hello Ryan,

    thank you for your support.
Meanwhile I have created a SQL-binding for the form. What I do not understand is how to preselect a value from a dropdown-box. My form always shows the first available entry from this dropdown. Is there still something to set?

    Best

    Jörg

    Hello Jörg,

It sounds like the Drop down isn't getting SQL bound or the record being SQL binded doesn't have a value that is associated with the drop down/ one of the values in the drop down list.

So I would double check the short name of your drop down list and compare it to the name of the column you're bringing back in the SQL bind.

If you have any questions please let us know.

    Thanks,

    Ryan
