Where/when should I expect to see the "invalid extensions error message" show up when the user selects to attach a file that is not in the allowable extensions list?

I have set both of these for some fields on my form and it does show unsuccessful (the red dot next to the filename) when a file is selected with an extension not in the list... but the error message is never displayed and I don't think the red dot is going to be enough to let my user know that their file upload wasn't acceptable.

On Submit, the selected file gets cleared out if there are other error messages but still no error message - not even enforcing the required field error... and then I am able to submit the form without it.

    Hi Cheryl,

Can you check in Module Configuration if both client side and server side validations are enabled?

If you add more text to the red dot in the Required Field Error, does the validation show? What do you have in the Required Field Text? Are you using Regular Expression?

Yes, both client side and server side validation are enabled - I had checked that too, hoping that it was related.

The Required Field Error field is already populated, with "Required" and the Required Field Text is "Completed budget form file is required".  Not using regular expression on any of the file upload fields.

f I select a file with a disallowed extension, then click Submit, I do not get either of the required field messages and the file itself is cleared out. Even once the other fields are populated, no additional validation is done to ensure that the file upload was provided.

Maybe this issue is more related to the version that we use for the file upload than to that field type overall?

Hi Cheryl - Is this specifically related only to the Telerik file upload or the standard file upload field?

    Thanks,

Chad - I just tried the other two File Upload Field Types and did not see the invalid extension error on either of them, so I guess it's not just related to Telerik unless I'm missing something else.  And actually, if it's not showing, the Telerik option is better since it at least shows the red dot next to the selected file to upload.

    Hi Cheryl,

Well actually this feature for the other upload field types works as server side validation, so it usually would not appear unless server side validation was enabled and after the user clicks submit. I can still double check that it's doing this, for the Telerik File Upload, I tried a few methods of showing this on that field but neither would work well. You might want add a note to the question header or footer until we do figure out a way to add this feature.

    Thanks!

Hm. I actually did click Submit during my testing, to see if the error would be thrown then. Didn't get it... We will definitely put notes about the valid field types in the interim.
