    For required fields, I would like the * to display on the left side of the label, not the right as is the default.  How do I configure this?

    Hi jpe,

    You might try adding html to your field label. Something like this:

     <font color="#ff0000" size="4">*</font> Last Name

    See examples at our test site: http://betasprings.com/DynamicForms...fault.aspx
    Login with host || dnnhost to see how it's done when you edit the fields.

    Thanks!
    Candace

    I was hoping to be able to do this without putting HTML into my label. I checked the checkbox "Display * next to field label" to generate the asterisk. This checkbox is under Module Configuration -> Validation Configuration. But when the asterisk is generated it is on the right side of the label. The HTML in the label is a work-around, but not exactly what I'm looking for since it's not generated dynamically based on whether the field is required or not.

    Hi. Yes for now this is the only way this automated feature can be displayed (to the right). We will review this for the future, at this time this is the only request we have had to add this feature... As a work around you can use the feature that Candace mentioned.

    Thanks,

    Chad

    I would second this request.  Putting the asterisk on the right is not considered best practice, for both usability and accessibility reasons, so please consider supporting the asterisk-on-the-left in the future.

    From a usability perspective, most users scan left to right.  So having the asterisk first (on the left) let's them identify the required fields more easily, without having the scan the entire label.

    From an accessibility perspective, screen readers (such as JAWS) also read left to right. Such a user would like to know that a field is required before the reader parses the entire label.  So placing the asterisk on the left is important for these users.

    Thank you.

    Also, as long as I'm posting here, I would not recommend the HTML shown in this post.  You are better off using something like
    <span  class ="MyRequiredField" >
    *
    <span>
    Last Name

    This allows you to define the class  MyRequiredField in CSS to define the color, size, or other attributes of your asterisk, rather than hard-coding them as part of the question text.
