    Hi Chad,

I'm creating a large form and have configure the new panels feature to keep things tidy.

That works fine, but there is a rendering problem in the HTML that causes trouble in IE7 and IE8 in particular.

You can find the same problem in Demo 34

    http://www.datasprings.com/products...g-w-panels

View that page in IE9, then Right-click, then View Source.

Go down to line 1782 and you'll find closing div, fieldset and td tags that don't belong there.

    Regards
    Rob

    Hi Chad or Candace,

Can someone from Datasprings take note of this issue. It's making a small mess of the collpasable panels in IE7/8 and needs to be fixed.

    Regards
    Rob

Hi Rob - Did this just start happening within the latest 4.1 release? I am wondering because we started adding additional items for DIV's and a property to set things as a field set (something we were not doing before 4.1). So... I guess my first question, is what specific version are you running on?

Do you not see any problems with FireFox or chrome?

    Thanks,

    Chad

    Hi Chad,

I've only used panels for the first time in the current latest release. Note that demo 34 has the same issue, and I assume that is the latest release as well.

The problem shows itself differently in different browsers because each browser deals with faulty HTML in a different way.

I have a very long form with 15 panels. In IE9, Firefox, Chrome, the collapsed panels are close together, exactly as I have styled them to be. These browsers ignore the extra open tags inthe HTML.

However, IE8 displays an extra fieldset below each panel fieldset, and IE7 displays that extra fieldset in a larger size. The result is that my form is twice as long in its collapsed state in IE8 and longer again in IE7, which makes it look silly... and makes me look like I have no sense of layout and design.

I wouldn't normally be too concerned, but this survey I'm creating is going out to about 2000 users in a few days, mostly in goverment organisations and I can already predict that the majority of them will be running IE7 and IE8.

I've tried to target and hide the faulty tags using css, but it's not possible to do so.

Demo 34 shows the problem, but as it has only one panel, you only see one extra fieldset.

I would guess that whatever code injects or repeats the fieldsets has the extra tags in it.

If there's an email address I can send to, I'll send you a link to see the survey. I can't really drop it in here.

    Regards
    Rob

    Hi Rob,

Looks like we fixed this in Demo 34. Can you please confirm that you're viewing this correctly now? We're putting together a couple more fixes but we're hoping to put out a patch by Friday or early next week. Thanks!

    Hi Candace,

Yep, I'm afraid it's still there. I've made a video to demonstrate it more clearly.

I get the impression that the issue is caused by the mis-matched div and td tags that surround the closing fieldset tag. The video makes that more clear.

p.s. I've got the flu in the video so please excuse the nasal voice.

Hi Rob - Thank you very much for your very detailed and informative details!

I believe I was able to track down the problem and see where we were adding this extra end tag when using panels. I think that this was also affecting a few other areas related to tabs and sections too as it was being added for all of them.

I have corrected this now, can you please confirm on our site that this is working and then we can get you an update within the next patch/hot fix?

    Thanks,

    Chad

Even better new Rob! That fixed an issue we were having sometimes with viewstate errors after using question events with Tabs...

    Thanks,

    Chad
