    Hi Sanjay,

    If you go to Module Config, General Settings, can you adjust the label cell width and see if it works for you? Another place to check is to manage the question, go to Look and Feel and make sure that the column span is =1.

    Hope this helps.

    I found the same problem that Sanjay had after I added a new HTML/Text question with a length of text, e.g.: "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Maecenas feugiat consequat diam." The result is the label cell width uses the module setting of 125px but the column width is ~360px, which creates a gap. Adjusting the column span or field width of the Text/HTML question has no effect. What can be done?

    I don't have that problem. If you're using a field type of: TEXT/HTML, you want it to display across the screen more, please go to the "Question Look / Feel" when you're editing the field and check your "Column Span". Default is 1. If you want to make it span across the page more, increase it to 3 or more and see if this is the desired effect you want to achieve. -- David

    Hmm. Well, here is how I can re-create the problem:
    1. Add a new Dynamic Forms Module (v2.7 of course!)
    2. Start form setup wizard
    3. Select First Name and then Run Wizard
    Result: Gap of about 5px between the First Name: label and cell.
    4. Drag and drop New Text / HTML field. (FYI: Default column span is 5)
    Result: "New Field" and no change in gap.
    5. Copy the text, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Maecenas feugiat consequat diam."
    6. Edit the question and paste the text.
    Result: Gap opens to ~60px.
    NOTE: I have found that the amount and style of text in the Text / HTML question can make the gap grow more than this amount.
    7. Drag and drop the Text / HTML field in the recycling bin.
    Result: Gap returns to 5px.
    Do you get the same results?

    Yes, I can duplicate your issue. However, what you can do is go into "Module Configuration', under "General Settings", change the "Label Cell Width" to 50 as opposed to value of 150 or higher and your "First Name" spacing should fix the issue. Try it out. -- David

    Here's what happens when I try adjusting the module Label Cell Width:
    --
    Initial state: The First Name label is ~60px from the field with the Text/HTML present.
    8. Change the module Label Cell Width from 125 to 50. Result: The label wraps and the gap GROWS to ~100px.
    9. Change the module Label Cell Width back to 125. Result: It gets WORSE. The gap is now ~185px Not good when you cannot return to the initial state!
    Further: Delete the Text/HTML. Result: Gap reduces to initial state. However, in edit mode there is now a ~60px gap to the left of the label and the Drag and Drop glyph (compared to 10px gap after step 3). Fortunately, the left side gap closes when in view mode but I think indicates a deeper problem with the layout generator.

    What else can be tried? The Text/HTML questions are a great feature but building anything complex becomes very frustrating. Like a house of cards, you can never tell when the next question will "mis-behave" and you often cannot get back to the initial state. I would not abandon the list style form designer but I would suggest an advanced designer UI, like a Visual Web Developer Design/Code window with DynamicForms question controls and parameter tokens. What is your vision?

    Chris, can you export your XML page onto www.betasprings.com (username: host, password: dnnhost) and tell me the URL page so I can take a look and see if I can fix it? Thanks. -- David

    David, I have created a page and loaded the iportable content file at the following URL:
    http://www.betasprings.com/Dynamic-...fault.aspx

    The gap came out slightly less than in my installation. I imagine that is due to differences in the css's. Looking forward to some ideas. Thanks!

    Chris, check it out. All I did was changed the Label Width to 70 under module configuration from what it was originally at 125 and the "First Name" is practically next to the textbox. -- David

    I do not see with your eyes. What happened? When I opened the page, I saw that the label wrapped, which is appropriate for the module Label Width of 65 but there was still a 100px gap I measured to the response field. Changing the width to 70 caused the gap to grow by 5px, not shrink. Oh how I wish it did! It acts like the old "table inside a table" problem you can get with HTML layouts. You can see it more clearly in the second screenshot I uploaded. It is that "outer" width that I'd like to manage. Any tricks you know of? What about inserting a fixed width table inside the Text/HTML question?

    Hi. Yes it appears that this works great in FireFox but not in IE. There are a few settings which can affect the way this looks/might provide alternatives.

    1. Label cell width / Word wrap - Which you already adjusted
    2. Display label and field in the same column - Not sure if this is an option for you
    3. Colspan on HTML Fields, I would set this to be as high as you might think it needs to span across, we usually default these to be 5 but you might need to mess and adjust this setting (both lower and higher) to see how it affects the other fields.
    4. Stylesheet properties. Some of these more specifically:

    By default:
    .DynamicForms_Maintable {

    width:100%;
    padding: 2px;
    }

    By default:
    .DynamicForms_Label
    {
    font-weight: Normal;
    font-size: 10.5pt;
    color: #000000;
    font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica;
    text-decoration: none;
    }

    Also... If you were really just trying to add a single area of text/html you could consider using the form header/footer and/or other text/html modules on the page.

    Thank you for discovering that the root cause is the browser version. So far, the only fix for the forms that have the gap problem is to rebuild them. I will investigate making changes to the css styles to get a more consistant behavior. I still suggest developing a "question form designer" feature that would give the user full control over the form layout.
