    Is there a limit for characters on sending an email after completion of the form? I put the whole thing in there and when I went back into it, it had cut off half of the end of it. I do have a slightly old version of Dynamic Forms (2.5), is this fixed in the later versions?

    If not, is it easier to create something similar using SQL or something...? I do have a fairly long, detailed form that I'm getting the data from.

    Thanks

    Hi. Yes this has changed (at least it has from the latest 2.7 release I just checked). The column and procedures within the 2.7 release actually have the data type of text to allow for unlimited characters. You might consider upgrading as there are other email enhancements including file attachment, cc, bcc, email from name etc... If you were holding off you should be able to do update the data base directly but thats never a great recommendation.

    Well it just makes it difficult to support if you make direct database updates etc... Additionally, sometimes because (not sure in this case) the limit could be both on the database and the code level, or sometimes both on the table level and the stored procedure level etc... Its not that you can't do it, just makes it harder for us to support if we know there were database updates outside the modules installation procedures.

    Can you tell me where I can find the tutorial for configuring the email functionality in Dynamic Forms?

    Thanks

    Nat,

    Hi. Well basically you can visit a number of the tutorials and demos at http://www.datasprings.com/formdemos

    The basics are...
    1. You can create as few or as many 'completion events' as you would like. One of the completion event types is 'email'.
    2. You want to create an email completion event and set the email from email, email from name, email to, email cc, email bcc, email subject, email message etc...
    3. You can use each of your fields 'short field' names within the email properties. For example, if you had a field with the short field name of 'FirstName' you could reference it in the subject line such as 'Thanks for submitting the form $(FirstName)
    4. Another common approach to email events is to use a token within the email to property that is from the form. For example, you could set the email to property to be $(Email) if you had a form field with a short field name of 'email'. This would allow you to email the user a message.

    Hope these quick tips help!

    Hallo,

    what I'm trying to reach is the following:

    user enters several data into my dynamic form. Most forms that appear will be depending on the input in a "former" field. So this is no problems via the events.

    But I'm quite unsure about how to set different recipients depending on the input in other fields.

    e.g.

    - a dopdown is set to Option 1 and a checkbox checked-> the email should be send to Adress1 & adress2.

    -dropdown is set to Option 1 and checkbox unchecked -> email to adress 1 only

    - dropdown set to Option 2 , checkbox unchecked -> email to adress 2  (or even to adress 4,5 as well)

    Is that possible? .. if so, can you give me a hint! thanks a lot

    HI, best way to accomplish this is to use javascript. For example, create a hidden field called "SetEmail" (although initially, you want to leave it as a textbox to verify your javascript logic to make sure it's setting properly).

    Let's say dropdown shortname is "Combo" and checkbox "Check".

    if ($(Combo) == 'Option 1') and ($(Check))
    { $(SetEmail) = 'jdoe@aol.com;jsmith@hotmail.com' };
    else
    if ($(Combo) == 'Option 2') and ($(Check))
    { $(SetEmail) = 'jdoe@aol2.com'};
    else
    if ($(Combo) == 'Option 1')
    {$(Combo) == ''};

    etc. -- Make sure to use Firebug along with Firefox to debug but the javascript wouldbe something like above. -- David

    Hi David,

    thanks for the hint. I'll try this soon and let you know thre results then.

    this question is maybe stupide, but i cannot find where to add the javacript for the submit event so that the client event is running and updating the email-field.

     FYI:I added the code to the client side events on the "textbox" so far.

    thanks

    HI, right. You add the javascript to the client side event and in your completion event, you create dynamic emails based on the reponses of the "SetEmail" hidden field. -- David
