Is there an easy way to limit the number of successful form submissions? We are creating a registration page for webinars with limited attendance.

Yes. You can pull from a database the list of 'Webinars' for example using the SQL Options, we have had a few clients do this to have a checkboxlist or dropdownlist of upcoming training sessions that were avaliable and the query would only pull ones that still had room in them, after submission the module would use a SQL Completion Event to update the training/webinar table and add/increment a count. This way your query to pull in the list of avaliable webinars could add the count into the conditions it checked in the query and only pull avaliable webinars.

I was hoping for something a little less elegant like the ability to get a count of form results/submissions for a DF module. Is this possible without creating custom tables?

    Chad:

Is this still the only process available to do this or does Forms have some other feature that's been added since 2009 to allow admins to easily limit the number of responses received?

    Thanks.

    Hi Jim,

Well... Each of these requests is pretty custom (at least from my experience with them) and they can be implemented but sometimes the # of responses to based on the UserID, sometimes its based on a timeframe (for example, if you vote on one of the recent contest entries at http://www.datasprings.com/contest/...st-entries which stores your IP Address and only allows a single vote every 24 hours), and sometimes its based on something else such as what this user might want which is a total # of submissions received etc... This can still be done (as is easier then in 2009) via a SQL Validation option however there is not a build in feature to do this. There are other instances where you might want the ability to submit an entry form until something like "a class" is full and then after that class is full the list of available classes no longer shows that item within the list....

So... Each situation is pretty unique from what we have found, and each one requires its own sets of rules and workflow which (for the most part) our module can already handle. There is a built in feature to enable "Survey Mode" which only allows a user per IP address to vote one single time, but, to answer your questions there is not a feature to allow for a "maximum number of submissions allowed" etc...

Thanks for your questions, I welcome any feedback you might want to give us!

    Chad:

The example you mentioned is exactly what we want to do. We want to list a number of classes that a user can sign up for but limit the class size to 20. When 20 people have registered, that class option is no longer listed.

Can you give me any ideas on how to structure the SQL Validation option or might this be a great topic for one of your very informative and helpful blog posts?

    Thanks for the insight.

    Jim
