What are all the requirements for a healthy restore of a site-collection, if i have only a backup file of a site-collection took using STSADM.exe? To elaborate my query, what are all the physical and logical files needed to do a successful restore of a site-collection using a backup file got from STSADM.EXE.

Do i need to take a backup of the SQL databases too? If yes, what databases are needed corresponding to a site collection? Can i restore a site-collection backup file which was taken a week ago, whatever be the changes had been done in the sharepoint environment until now? Sorry for multiple questions...!
