Sorry for this basics question. I would like to take advantage of using SQL Driven Options. I have seen how to implement the SQL statement by reading posts and using the provided U.S. States template. What I don't know how to do though is create the table of options. I looked at Demo 11 but didn't see how to do this part. Obviously I have minimal SQL experience. I appreciate any help.

    Ken

Edit: one thought – if I manually enter the options, then they are now in a table. If this is the answer to my question, then how can I identify this table?

Hi Ken, you have several options:
    1) if your list isn't extensive and you're only using it on a combobox once on a particular DF module on a page somewhere, then it's more convenient to enter the values manually (however, this means if you have other DF forms on other pages and you want to use this same list, you will have to manually add them there as well)
    2) if your list is going to be used often on other DF modules/pages, then it's more convenient to create a list table
Go to HOST / LISTS and create your table there once
    3) Then to use this Lists table, you can use SQL driven options

    or
    4) you can create a separate SQL table and insert your record into it and call it

Once you set up your Host / Lists table or separate SQL table, feel free to repost here and I'll or someone else can help you with the SQL statement once we know what the field names / table name is for your table. -- David

Fantastic! I was able to create a list and use the following code to generate my options dynamically:

select Text as QuestionOption, Text as QuestionOptionValue from Lists where ListName= 'AwardCategories'

I just modified the code provided in the States list example. Let me ask a related SQL statement question. In the example for the states, if I wanted to only list the US states (i.e. not the Canadian states), what would be the correct statement. The lists are both named region but have different parents:

    Country.Canada:Region
    Country.United States: Region

    The statement is:

select Text as QuestionOption, Text as QuestionOptionValue from Lists where ListName= 'Region'

Thanks so much for clueing me in to Lists.

HI Ken, add a where clause at the end of your SQL statement.

select Text as QuestionOption, Text as QuestionOptionValue from Lists where ListName= 'Region' and ParentID = 221

if 221 is the ParentID for US on your System. It is on my DNN install. -- David
