I am running Dynamic Forms 02.70.5 with DNN 04.09.02.

I have a long form defined with field validation and mandatory fields. When the submit button is clicked at the bottom of the screen (remember, this is a very long form) and there are errors, the user is left at the bottom of the screen and all the error messages are at the very top of the screen. Well needless to say, the users don't realize this and keep hitting the submit button not knowing that there are errors. Is there any way to direct the errors in a pop-up box or to the bottom of the screen or somehow make them more visible to the user?

I have tried checking the "Show help text as pop up text?:" in the "Question Look / Feel" section but there is no pop-up window. Is that what this option is supposed to do? Not sure what "show help text as pop up text" is supposed to mean. Then there's the problem of people not allowing pop-ups on their browser so I guess I would prefer to have the error messages displaying at the bottom of the screen where the submit button is....I guess.

Hi Diligens, the "Shoe help text" is just to show user a descriptive message of what they need to fill in. Have you tried setting the validation summary to show at the bottom in Module Configuration/ Validation Configuration? Also, for fields that are required, you should also set something for "Required Field Text" and "Required Field Error" on each of the required fields under "Question Validation". -- david

Oh wow! I didn't notice all those setting in the configuration area. Thanks a lot David. That was very helpfull.

Ok, I changed some settings under "Validation Configuration". I changed " Validation Summary Location:" to bottom but now I get nothing (at top or bottom). When it was set to TOP, I got the summary of the errors at the top of the screen. I don't have the "HIde validation summary" checked.

HI Diligens, did you also make sure to check "Diisplay Validation Summary Message"? Also, you might consider forcing the user to the "top of the screen" after invalid validation or set forcus on first validation error field as well. These are options to play with that will not leave the user hanging at the bottom of the screen.

If these settings don't achieve what you want, feel free to reply back. Also, the new version of DF 3.0 just recently released has many new features you might consider upgrading. -- David

Also, some of these settings are specific to Server Side Validation only. So if its not forcing them to the top/bottom and so forth try turning off client side validation and just leaving on server side validation.

Oh woo hoo! It finally worked.

David, I had all that selected but I also had client side validation and server side validation. I turned off the client side validation like Chad suggested and now it works great!

Thanks a lot David and Chad.
