I have what seems to be a strange problem.  I have 2 sets of "Yes - No" radio buttons, each uniquely named, and each with their own question event to display sub-questions if a user responds "Yes" to them.  In some basic testing, I click my submit button without filling out the form, and I see all of the required field messages as expected (including the messages for the radio buttons).

If I then respond to one of the radio button questions (even answering "No"), the required field message for BOTH sets disappears.  Also, if I then fill out everything else on the form, but still leave my other radio button set blank, the form will submit, which says the required field is not being honored.

Any ideas?  I've gone over everything 6 times and to me it all seems to be configured correctly.

    Thanks for the help!

    Hi Chris,

That does seem strange but it can get a little tricky with required fields and question events.  Can you tell me what Dynamic Registration version you have from Host, Module Definitions?  Also, what DNN version are you on?  is the 2nd radio button field one of the questions that display based on the first radio button?

    I'm running DNN 05.01.00 (773), and DynReg 3.20.70.

And no, the radio button sets are not dependant on each other (they are separate top-level questions, each with their own question events to display hidden questions).

    Thanks for your help Candace!

Thanks for that, Chris.  Please try and duplicate this over at our test site, www.betasprings.com (use host / dnnhost to log in).  Just create your own page, choose Dynamic Registration as the parent page and set up your radio buttons there.  Then let us know your test results with your page name and link so we can review it.  Thanks!

I tried re-creating my problem, but I can't create the question events...the site won't let me.

Basically, Radio 1 should cause Hidden 1 to become visible, and radio 2 should cause hidden 2 to become visible.

Page Name: Chris Radio Button Required Field Test

    Thanks,

Sorry about that.  It seems to be working now as I was able to create 1 question event to display field if yes is selected.  Please go ahead and continue setting it up for testing and let me know what happens.  Thanks!

Hmmm...unfortunately it looks like I will have to create more than just my two radio button sets to get my example setup. And, I honestly don't have time right now to go through it (the site I'm working on is launching next week).

Is there enough there to see what the problem might be? Basically, when trying to submit without having selected either button, I get the required field message for both radio button sets. If I then answer one of the radio buttons, and submit again, it clears the error message for BOTH. I can then actually submit the entire form without having ever provided an answer for the 2nd radio button.

Another thing to note is that I am ONLY using server-side validation....I turned off client side.

Thanks for all of your help!

    Hi Chris,

I just spoke to our chief developer, Chad, about this and found out that this is a bug that was just very recently discovered. We're looking for a fix to be included in the next release. Meanwhile, can you try a combo box (dropdown) field instead? Or maybe a single select listbox? If you're using a combo box and setting it to required, you need to add Please Select at the very top of the list. Thanks.

Is this already fixed in the 4.0 version? We have thesame problem with multiple checkboxes and if 1 of the checkboxes is filled than the others are not triggered as required.

    Thanks in advance

As far as I know the issue with radio button fields and being set to required was fixed in either an updated 4.0 patch or in upcoming 4.1 release. I thought this was already fixed in 4.0 though.

    Hi Chris,

Wanted to let you know that we just posted Dynamic Registration 4.00.40 in Snowcovered.  You can access it in Patches and Hotfixes (or in MyDownloads for Collection 3.0 owners).  Thanks!
