    Hi, I see two options for providing an order number to customers back in 2008 - http://www.datasprings.com/Products....aspx#5027

    1. Textbox or hidden field with a SQL Default, the SQL default would basically generate a unique variable (such as a GUID).

    2. Use the GUID.

    I am not sure I understand option 1 and the GUID is not very user friendly.

    Are there any further ideas for implementing a user friendly order number? If not, would you please expand on how I could implement option 1?

    Thank you!

    FYI - We would really like to be able to include the 8-10 character Order Number in the subject of the email, this will help differentiate between the mulitple orders from the same customer. With the model we are working with, customers could place 5-50 orders in a given day or a few hundred a month.

    Hi, you can still use the SQL default and only take the first ten characters of the 32 bit auto generated GUID. Try out this statement:
    1) create a textbox field called OrderNumber and use the following SQL Default Driven statement:
    select substring(replace(newid(),'-',''),1,10) as DefaultValue

    This will generate a random 10 character value that's practically almost impossible to be duplicated and you can include this token in your email. -- David

    Hi - the code you provided will work for now and looks much better than the long GUID string. Thank you!

    I like the way you say "practically almost impossible to be duplicated"!
