When I delete a user using the Manage Users tab, the UserID (or Username) does not get deleted and stays in database.  It prevents me from using the deleted username again for registration.  is there a way to fix this so I can register under a username which has been unregistered before? Thanks.

Hi, what version of DNN are you running? It seems that in DNN 5.0 and higher, a deleted user is never really deleted in the database but rather has a field column "IsDeleted" set to 1. If you go to Host / SQL and type in:

    select * from userportals

you will see an "IsDeleted" column for that userid. If you type in:

    select * from users

you will see that that user is still in the database. -- David

I am running DNN 5.1.2. So how do I remove them from the database? Is there a SQL script I can execute to remove them completely so it looks like they never registered in the first place? Thanks for the quick reply.

You could probably come up with an SQL script to permanently remove the user, but I'm not 100% sure what the consequences are. Here are the SQL tables to consider since they are connected through foreign key constraints:
    1) users (UserID,UserName,etc)
    2) userportals (UserID,PortalID,IsDeleted,etc)
    3) userprofile (UserID,PropertyDefinitionID,etc)
    4) userroles (UserID,RoleID,etc)
    5) aspnet_users (UserID specifically for ASPNET, UserName,etc)
    6) aspnet_Membership (UserID specifically for ASPNET,etc)

So you will need to create a stored procedure that will delete the UserID / UserName from these tables. I hope I'm not missing any other tables. -- David

I have another site using DNN 5.1.2 which uses the built in DNN registration, no Dynamic Registration module installed. On that site, I can delete a user and it will let me use the deleted username again for another registration. Looks like this issue occurs when I use the Dynamic Registration module. SQL Manager won't let me delete the above table entries you mentioned due to the constraints attached to them. What would be the best way to go about this so I can register some of the deleted users again under their original usernames? Thanks.

    Tim,

Hi. Yes this seems to be something that came about just recently with 5.1 and maybe even specifically 5.1.2. Its called a 'soft delete' and something Dynamic Registration and Dynamic User Directory have not currently caught up to (but will in the very near future).

I will have to test this though, my understanding was that even in DNN registration if you deleted the user and then tried to register as that user again it wouldn't let you.

This is all on the same portal (portal ID?).

Yes, same portal. I registered a user, later on deleted it, and then registered under the same username again on the same portal.

I should also point out that I am able to register a previously deleted username on the DNN site on which I am using Dynamic Registration module IF I bypass the DR module and use DNN's registration provider as admin.

However, my visitors can't do that since the only way to access the DNN registration is thru admin and I need my visitors to go thru the DR module for registration. Do you have an ETA for the fix? Thanks for all your help.
