Need a little help on this...

    I have a multi-page form.

On the first form, I have an ID field, First Name, etc.

In the Form Completion Events I have created an event (Dynamic SQL) to insert those records into a custom table.

The custom table has an ID field that is set to a uniqueidentifier, my insert sql stmt is "INSERT INTO mytable(FName,...) VALUES($(FirstName),...). When the record is inserted the ID field is populated (SQL Svr table) with a unique id...

How do I retrieve that value to populate the hidden ID field on the second form?

The reason for this is that I need to then do an update stmt (Dynamic SQL Event) for the fields in form2.
Basically, "UPDATE mytable SET my fields = form fields WHERE id = $(ID)".

I'm not sure if this is the best way to accomplish this, any ideas would be appreciated.

My form has over 100 fields and I don't want to put it all into 1 form.

    Thanks,

    Jon

    Jon,

Hi. Your solution is coming close, I think you need that unique identifier though right? So that you can use it in form page 2? If so then v2.3 supports a new feature in general settings that says 'Pass Unique CompletionID'. I will have to check the documentation but basically this was added for this purpose.

Step 1: Instead of using your own unique identifier you should use the one Dynamic Forms uses (its also a GUID). Whenever you are doing the SQL statement you can use the parameter '$(UniqueCompletionID)'.

Step 2: Check the box in general settings to pass the unique completionID

Step 3: Create a hidden field on the 2nd form, on the 'short field name' name it UniqueCompletionID and under the advanced settings check the box to retrieve values from a session variable. To make sure its working you might start by just using a textbox field and not a hidden field. This should pull in the unique value that you can use.

This should do it, we have a few scenarios and customers that have done this but each solution is different so your feedback is welcome. We are also working on more intuitive solutions for this in future versions (i.e. wizard like capabilities with forward/back buttons, save for later, etc...)

Has there been any recent progress on this, or is anyone using features as discussed here? I'm particularly interested in the multi-page forms with 'save for later' and, of course, with 'prev/next' buttons.

    David,

I have the multi-page form working. I don't have the 'save for later' functionality - this is something that will need to be programmed in to the next release.

Prev/ Next is done with multiple pages with form instances on each page. From there you pass the uniquecompletionid to the next page - form instance.

I am on my own server, so this makes it very easy for me to create and test in sql server. If you need an example of how I did this, let me know.

Jon, thanks. Yes, I would like to see an example or a bit more detail on how you did this. I don't understand, e.g., 'form instances', but am about to poke around to learn about it. Anyway, an example would be great. Thanks! David

I will work something up for you.

When I say 'form instance', I just mean a form that has been dropped onto a page.
