I have a call queue that is set up like Demonstration #14. When someone initially fills out the form, a question event fires to show a hidden field based on a user's choice in a combo box. This works on the initial fill, but if the user has selected the choice that unhides the box, fills in the previoiusly hidden box, then submits the form and reopens it for editing from the list by clicking the edit pencil, the combo box choice is still the choice that was saved, but the event doesn't fire and the previously hidden field is hidden again. The only way to bring it back is to select a different choice from the combo box, then selecting the choice that unhides again to get the event to fire. I want this field to stay unhidden even on editing, without having to choose twice from the combo to uhide it again. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you using SQL Bind to populate the form when opened for edit?

If so, you may need create a hidden question and make it sort order 0 or 1... populate that question on SQL Bind when SQLType=Update with something, then create another un-hide question event on the hidden question field that will un-hide the other not-visible question.

I created a field called HiddenStatus, made it hidden, set it sort order=1, and I'm giving it the same value as Status (the field where the initiation response is coming from for the event) on bind. I created three events for the three choice that should un-hide the hidden field. When I revisit the form, the hidden field still doesn't show. I un-hid the new field HiddenStatus and it is pulling in the correct choice for the combo. I'm not sure if I didn't do something correctly or what.

One thing that I didn't do is remove the events on the un-hidden Status field. I figured that if I did, the hidden field that I want to show wouldn't show while the formis being filled out initially, since the HiddenStatus field would not have the correct value until returning to the form for editing.

Thanks, richard, for your help. If you have any suggestions that will fix the problem that I'm having now, please let me know.

    Thanks -ToddJ

    Todd,

Hi. I had a couple of comments on this.... First, are you using the 'hide by role' for your hidden field or is it actually a 'hidden field' type? I think you need to make sure you are using the hidden field type if its going to trigger other question events and not anything such as another field type with hide by role etc... Another option is to setup a very basic example of what you are attempting to do www.betasprings.com (login as host/dnnhost) and we can help assst better if we have a working example to work from. Having fields shown/hidden based on a hidden field value is for sure something that is a common feature and implementation.

I did not notice the Hidden Field type befoer I saw it mentioned today in AB's post about the same problem (sorry for posting a second topic on this, I did not find AB's until last Tuesday). I had been using a combo for the type of my HiddenStatus field. I tried changing the question to that type, but didn't remember to remove the rule to hide until forced visible, which I had checked. I unchecked this and now my field is showing on load when it needs to!

Thanks Chad, Richard, AB and everyone else who gave me a clue that finally came together as the solution! I'm going to update the other topic in the hopes that it will help. -ToddJ
