    Hello,

I am looking at your Dynamic Forms module and want to make sure it fits my needs for a project.

I need to create forms to add and update data in a SQL database in which I already have an existing schema. Does your module only work with a proprietary data store or schema or can I map form fields to add and edit existing database fields?

I also need to create forms for filtering or searching data from an existing database. With your module do I have the option to use post and get methods so that I can use form values in sql queries to refine or filter data sets?

I have read that I can use SQL queries to fill select lists, but can I use current values in other fields as parameters in those queries? For example if I had a state select list and a city select list. The selected value in the state list should filter the items in the city select list. Is this possible?

Can your dynamic forms module be used to create dynamic registration forms just like the dynamic registration module?

can I add or edit records in my database based on the logged in DNN user adding or editing the records?

    Thanks

Hi. Let me see if I can answer your questions.

With each forms submission you can has as few or as many 'Completion Events' as you would like. Completion event types include email, SQL, URL redirection etc... Basically in your case you can use SQL events to insert/update the data into literally any table you would like. For example
    Insert Into YourTable(FirstName, LastName) Values ('$(QuestionOneShortFieldName)', '$(QuestionTwoShortFieldName)')

    etc...
For all fields types you do have the option to pull in both the text and the value for pulling in the options via SQL

For city/state - Yes, within SQL options you can also use the short field names to filter data.

For example, lets say your state short field name is call MyState and there is a column in the database you are pulling from which is called CityState.

-This is to get the states
Select Text as QuestionOption, Text as QuestionOptionValue from yourtable

Then, based on the states values you can use this query within the city field
Select Text as QuestionOption, TExt as QuestionOptionValue from yourtabole where CityState = '$(MyState)'

This works but you will also have to create a question event within the module to make sure that the State dropdown does a postback etc... This is easy to do within the module, you don't need to specify anything other then to make sure its setup as a postback question.

The Dynamic Registration module has some very specific areas of code related specifically for registration. Although the form generation is similar the registration module handles more registration type features such as userID, cancelling membership, passwords, localization, persistent cookies, ability to auto create userID's etc...

    -Chad
