HI, SQL validation is actually server side validation, because it has to send data to the SQL server to check and return the results. Server side validation requires a post-back on form submit.
What you can do is also use form completion event and pass along querystring variables depending on the results. Another words, have another DF module below on another page so that on the first form, when you hit submit, if validated, will take the user to the 2nd page to represent the second phase.
